Because:

a) it's dynamic
b) it's easy to understand
c) it's relatively easy to play
d) you only need a ball to play
e) and because it's a PASSIOOOON!!!

I think I know what you mean, but, for the benefit of all those who don't know, or have forgotten, the difference between not-playing-and-just-watching and just-playing-and-not-watching, can you just remind us all about the difference?

And because it isn't at all boring to watch if one has only the slightest clue about the game.

Well, a game of catch it definitely is not.

I heard about this guy who played all by himself for a full 90 minutes in a football field.

At the end, the score was a rivetting, heart-pounding 1-1 tie.

Another Ameericfan who can't stand the thought that America isn't numero uno in everything. How bitter and twisted they must be

Swiss teachers think that soccer is so "boring" that they let the kids leave school early to catch Tuesday's game. Seriously.

I've never heard of that in the U.S.

Probably because we don't have Swiss teachers in the U.S.?

Football(soccer) is electrifying compared to the dreadful sport of baseball. American football comes a close second in the boredom charts, especially when you figure out just how little time is spent playing the game and how much is spent in a huddle.

Baseball is just as interesting to its fans as football is to you and other World Cup fans.
Earlier this evening, as I walked my dog through my favorite park (in Berkshire), there were groups of kids playing football (soccer), slow-pitch American softball, and cricket. Everybody having a good time, Nobody pulling attitude that "their" sport was best and the others boring rubbish.
Some posters here could use a lesson from those kids!

Cricket? Talk about another boring sport. Oh, and by the way, a game of this takes 5 DAYS to complete!

Anyway, I don't want to change this boring subject. On with soccer.

Well, I don't know about soccer, but I find it more interesting and exciting to watch that American football.

Even here in Australia, where soccer vies with three other football codes for attention, interest is very high. Of course, had our team not survived the first round by beating Japan 3-1, losing to Brazil 0-2 and drawing 2-2 with Croatia (results achieved despite/because of the fact that the referees appeared to be playing for the other side) no doubt the excitement would be more muted. Let's see what happens after we play Italy.

I hold dual passports - one for Australia and one for Italy. So the play off is going to be interesting. Congratulations to both teams.

If you had grown up in Chapel Hill, NC you would have an official day off for the first day of the ACC men's basketball tournament.
