Why Not Rant and Rave??

With all these great travelers in this forum, why aren't there more people posting their Rants and Raves (the new forum feature)? I'd love to read people's opinions of hotels and restaurants. I realize that there are many more hotels that are not featured but your critiques would be valuable on the ones listed.

I did my bit and have posted on the hotels I have stayed on. I am hoping, that by doing so, this will reduce the somewhat burdensome task of repeating advice over and over. From now on, I am referrring people to my post on the Rant & Rave, when appropriate.

Good point, Deena.

absolutely good idea. several days ago i posted a suggestion that everyone do their hometown also. i tried to find that posting yesterday to bring it back to the top with the hope that weekend only people would see it but apparently it has disappeared along with several other messages lately. so thanks for this posting.

I just posted there too, but the problem is that it's all about the bigger cities. We try to stay out in the countryside and stay at the little inns, Zimmer Freis, Posadas and Gasthauses. We also like to travel on a budget, a tight budget, and the places given are mostly out of my price range. Is there anyway to add towns(Rothenburg, Fussen, Dover, Haderslev, etc.) and smaller hotels?

I did go in to "rant and rave". But I too think the problem is that there are mostly major cities. We tend to stay in the small towns as mentioned above (Rotenburg, ville franche, Beaune, Chamonix, murren etc) And even in the bigger cities tend to visit more 3* hotels or less. As a result, I found about 3 of the places we visited in the last 3 years out of about 21. So it may be the choices provided do limit the postings.

I thought i'd bring this one back to life. I had the same question. Also agree with comments about limited cities/towns.

Tammy Mar 14th, 2001 10:26 AM

I too have added information regarding the hotels I have stayed at, but it is very limiting. It would be great if we could add the hotels we have stayed, including address, phone number, fax number, e-mail and web address, cost of room, etc.

Tammy - - who would do all the maintenance? (room price) - - even web address, e-mail and telephone numbers change over time!

Name and address are barely stable as it is!
I have my shortcut pointed directly to fodors/forum/europe, so I rarely see the header pages. Its a good idea but I agree with Rex that we'd never be able to keep information current.

Yeah, why not?

Intrepid1 Feb 26th, 2006 05:46 AM

Interesting that there doesn't seem to be any hesitation about keeping the rather gargantuan "superthreads" up to date and current.

Zeus Feb 26th, 2006 07:15 AM

Just wondering if we're on the same page, Intrepid. Are you referring to some of the nonsense threads with 300 or more replies or something else? I come to this website for information not to see who can come up with the "cutest" and/or longest thread title or to play word association games. Set up a seperate page for that stuff and stick to real travel info on this site.

Travelnut Feb 26th, 2006 07:55 AM

No, there are actually useful threads where people post helpful information and links for a given city, ie. "Paris Superthread".. have a look:

I simply don't know all the ins and outs of the forums. I'll look for it though.
