For anyone who is still following along about Helsinki. Another post, this time on Helsinki as a City of Design....shops, the Design Museum, a description and pictures of many of the buildings we saw including a walk through a new residential district etc

I was in Helsinki in October 2004, as a wrap-around to visiting Tallinn, where I met some relatives. My parents had been there during their honeymoon in 1964 and they always talked about it as a very striking city. I was there during the annual Herring Festival down at the harbor and I enjoyed practicing my photography on the little booths selling lingonberries and the special herring snack. I had such a good time just walking around. The light was fantastic. I still have the Moomin-shaped cookie cutter I bought there.

A Moomin-shaped cookie cutter what a fabulous momento!

Sorry, this is what I meant to post..All of the photos in this above thread are excellent, so I thought I'd throw in my purely amateur scanned pix of Finland c.1985...mainly countryside and some of the city. We had been in the old SSR for nearly a month and needed a breath of fresh country air, so decided to stop in Finland before heading back to USA. |
