Why is trying to find a place to stay in Bristol, England so hard?

So I decided to stay overnight in Bristol (because I want to, that's why. ;-) )

I did my usual search for a B&B, only this time I am finding it extremely difficult to locate anything. I find it hard to believe there is a lack of accomodations in Bristols.

Can anyone recommend anything to me. I want someplace near the center (somewhere near @Bristol would be great!) it can be a B&B or hotel - but I need a single no more than 40GBP (but preferably less)

Thanks in advance.

Why is it so hard? Well, Bath is a few miles down the road and gets the lions share of the tourist trade. But Bristol DOES have many attractions (do try the Empire Museum next to Temple Meads Station) and I am surprised you are having difficulties.
We have used www.visitbristol.co.uk before to search for accommodation, although we use Hotels. Maybe the B and B search on this might throw up soemthing useful?

Be aware that there are often two or more levels of information about tourist/traveler accommodations. The formal or prominent level is financially supported by large businesses. It usually excludes minor operators. A resident renting a single room cannot afford to advertise. They simply post a 'room for rent' sign in the window. Take a chance, travel to Bristol and then talk with a taxi driver or a local about alternate accommodations. Some of these single room operations may not even have a telephone. Let us know what you find.

I just searched for b&b in bristol on google and it threw out loads of stuff.
Another option is travelodge

www.travelodge.co.uk

or travelinn

www.travelinn.co.uk

they are cheap great value just to sleep and usually next to a restaurant of some kind, breakfast is usually discounted.

However I am intrigued, why Bristol?
I can think of millions of places to stay preferable to Bristol.

Each to their own I guess.

Good luck

Unfortunately, my health doesn't allow me to "take a chance" I have to know where I will be staying.

Yes, Google did throw out a lot, but if you take a closer look, there isn't a lot offered on those pages and most of them are for places "close to Bristol" (I can't be too far because I won't have a car)

I even tried smoothhound, and other England B&B sites (where I found my other B&Bs) with little success (not like the other cities in England like York, Bath, Brighton etc. where there were a ton of B&Bs like what I was looking for.)

Why Bristol? Because I wanted to do a daytrip from Bath but now I am thinking that it might be pushing it trying to Bristol in one day and leave enough time to get back to Bath. So I better just stay the night... I have my health to think about. I understand that for most people it would be easy to take full day trips and come and go etc. but I can't over do it like that or I may end up making myself too ill for the rest of my trip. ... So now you know.

Now if someone could just recommend a place, that would be great.

Hi From,

Perhaps you could call or write the Chamber of Commerce in Bristol.

From, try www.visitbritain. It gave 28 listings, one very close to the rail station. Hope this helps.

Try this one from the Bristol Tourism Board:

http://www.visitbristol.co.uk/acc/

It appears to let you search based on distance from city center.

Thanks for the help. I think the visitbristol site was down last night. (unless I was really doing something stupid -it is possible ) I could only get 1 or 2 B&Bs to come up. I am doing much better now.

I also sent for their tourism and accomodation brochures, which will help.

Kayb95, thank you. That is one of my favorite B&B sites (found most of the B&Bs I'll be staying at there) - I was about to tell you I already looked and didn't see anything ... but for some reason, I decided to look again. quot;> Last night I didn't see where it continued on the next page. I thought that was it after the first page! - and most of them were to far away for me.) I see a lot more posibilities now!!

I can laugh at myself. I know I make a lot of mistakes. But it is nice to come on this forum and get help. I admit I have a hard time sometimes though because it is not always easy to read expression in people's typing ... I mean , sometimes I think a person is trying to be rude when they probably aren't at all!! - That's my problem though. I'll work on it.

obxgirl, I definitely want to go to the @Bristol complex. (I can never turn down an IMAX!! quot;> ) The other things there look like so much fun too. - Then there is general sightseeing ... were you going to recommend something?
