Why is this board constantly censored.

This is the closest I have seen to an explanation from Fodors about why they delete what they delete. This has been posted on several occasions, and curiously enough, they delete those threads, but not the thread where it originally appeared.

excerpted from http://www.fodors.com/forums/pgMessa...31&tid=1405664

on another forum...

Author: Danny Mangin ([email protected])
Date: 08/31/2002, 01:37 pm

Message: Hello All --

Thanks to everyone for expressing your opinions about the forums in posts and e-mails.

... we strictly enforce our policy that all posts be about travel and travel only...

Just so everyone is clear about the purpose of Travel Talk, Fodors.com created these forums as a place for participants to receive and share advice about travel. To provide maximum benefit for travelers -- and to ensure that text and subject searches contain useful trip-planning information -- we restrict the discussion to travel. There are numerous venues all over the Web for conversations about politics, world history, and religion, or for parodies and salacious humor. The focus here is travel.

If the above doesnt answer questions you may have about the Travel Talk policy, the policy and a link to the Travel Talk FAQ are on the Travel Talk home page www.fodors.com/forums.

Yours truly,

Danny Mangin
Editorial Director
Fodors.com
I'm glad they censor. I get on this board specifically for travel advice, which is the purpose of the board. Too many people make rude, political, and inappropriate comments. I think Fodor's does a great job, and we should all appreciate having the board. They could eliminate it any time they please, so don't complain, just go somewhere else.

Hi all,

Okay, I'm going to offer two amazing suggestions:
1. Travel threads, ranging from newbie "Where do I find. . .," to trip reports,to specific questions (mundane or archaic) about specific destinations, are more interesting than anything I've seen here on humor, politics, personal opinion, etc. To wax nostalgic for a minute, the range of travel questions reminds me of the phases that I've gone through as an aging (55) person who has traveled to learn for many years. And it's fun to respond to questions about the growing number of places that I've vistited.
2. "Censorship," as others have pointed out, is a nonstarter. This is a proprietary board, and Fodors does us a favor by maintaing it, and they have a responsibility to edit it. And I hope that they're profiting from it.

Best to all,

Joe
Actually I really enjoy those political threads aswell... the chance to discuss with other nationalaties and other viewpoints is wonderful and keeps us all sane (I believe).
So where are these other websites where this is encouraged? Can anyone point me in the right direction. Thanks!

You can "Enter the Fray" (their phrase) by clicking on "Discuss" at http://slate.msn.com and yack away to your heart's content about anything, vaguely related to items in the current day news, or not.

Must be countless others.

Best wishes,

Rex
You can bitch about the President, the Liberals, the Conservatives, the Commies, etc., all you want, but what good does it do? Do you really think anyone cares about YOUR opinion. No, all they want to do is spout off about what THEY think.

Besides, I've found that those people who bitch the loudest don't even bother to vote!
I'm with you. I find it really tough to tolerate the Travel Agents' and Tour Guides' arrogant drivel about "THIS" is the only place to see and "THAT" is the lenght of time you should stay . . .

sean - because it was a stupid question
al - what's your problem
well - if the reader had been from another planet
cyrus - from personal experience?
noreds - hello? This is travel talk.
bettyk - where did you find that?

To all those who say it's Fodor's right to censor: more power to them. I hope they censor my remarks because they have nothing to do with travel.
