The main reason why the Euro is always so much high against the dollar, is that the EU does not print more money to pay bills. At present the US economy is much stronger than than the EU as a whole.

You can expect the dollar to rise against the euro in the next couple of weeks. It always does when we go to America.

well thank you hetismij2 - I appreciate all the help you can give me :)

Heading to London and Venice in the next couple of weeks - while I definitely want a No vote on the Scotland referendum . . . a Yes vote would really make my trip a lot cheaper. (Except so much is pre-paid)

"Why sarcasm?"

Because you can now actually bookmark a thread. There is no need to top an old thread just to "bookmark." Nevertheless, people continue to do it.

I need to coordinate my next trip across the pond with yours.

Just got back from Boston where I felt like we could have stayed in Paris for a week cheaper. Seven dollar pints, eleven dollar drinks, expensive meals where you have to tip on top of said expensive meal and the price of hotels in that city is crazy. Except for an inexpensive flight it would have been cheaper to spend the week in Europe so you have to weigh all of that. Our hotel in Portsmouth was expensive and 18.00 parking with a valet was more like 25 day if you went anywhere.
At least you don't have to tip everyone and you can eat and drink fairly inexpensive in many areas. I bought a pint of ice cream at Savenors and it was 12.99. It really wasn't that special but wasn't marked so about gagged when she rang it up. Happy grass fed cow ice cream. We just wanted a treat to take back to hotel. A Gelato is never that expensive in Paris or London.

Don't get why this is such a big no,no. I am not going to email myself a thread when I can just attach my screen name to it and then easily find it here on Fodors. I much prefer to have my travel related threads stored here, thank you.

Ok, so no one post: ttt, topping, bookmark.
Add some mundane comment. That works too.

Such a silly thing to get your knickers in a twist.

"Don't get why this is such a big no,no."

It irritates people:

Because the information is often out of date and you don't realize it until someone mentions that the thread is ten years old.

Because you feel like a fool for not noticing if you contribute.

Because current threads are knocked off the Top 25.

Because you think something substantive might have been added to a thread you're following only to find it's been "bookmarked."

There is no need to email anything. You simply click Add bookmark. Specify the file, and you're done. And when you hunt for it later, you look in, say "London" rather than review every posting you've made on Fodor's over the years. You're a smart lady -- get with the program!

But you're right, it is definitely small stuff which should not be sweated. I still wish Fodor's would lock threads more than a couple of months old so that they're read only.

I think the question was still a good one for 2014 and loved seeing the dooms day posting.

Pretty much ditto what Fra_Diavolo said. Not a huge deal one way or the other but can be very annoying when folks start responding to the OP and even doing some extra research for them only to later see the thread is 6 years old and the honeymoon trip is long over and they probably have 3 kids by now.

It is soooooo easy to bookmark something privately w/o topping a years old thread.

And some folks who 'bookmark' a lot 'bookmark' a LOT - they will top 7 or 8 old threads in an hour. The main reason it is a problem is the Fodors search function doesn't work -- the data base hasn't been indexed in months so if one searches for a specific topic, the only things they'll find are old, moldy threads . . . and then bookmark them.

European currency is nearly always higher in July/August because of the large number of tourists.

In addition, it's Obama's fault.

BTW,

The Euro is now only $1.29
