Why is the amalfi coast a NO NO in winter?
 

I will be going for 2 weeks to Italy after new year. I have bought loads of guide books and I love the scenery of the coast. I was going to spend 4 days there but after seeing threads here I am no longer sure. Wont the same spectacular scenery and drive be there??!!then, why not?

I think this question was answered yesterday, but the scenery is still there, of course. It is just that the temperature is cold, but people live there all year around so it is bearable. We were just in Sorrento during a thunder/lightening storm and was spectacular, so go for it.

It's not only cold but very DAMP. I lived in Naples for three years so I know.

People avoid that coastline in winter for similar reasons as they avoid Cape Cod, MA. Both are cold and damp.

Clay,<BR>I have friends who visited Amalfi last December. It was cold and damp, but if that doesn't bother you, it is also blessedly devoid of tourists. Some restaurants were closed, but not enough to really matter. They really enjoyed it.<BR><BR>M.
