I think you'll all love Chiméra Yakamoz. I wish I could remember the name of the woman who runs out. She's super nice and likes to practice speaking her English.

basingstoke and apersueder,

Do you also have a link to your apartment?

tod,

Turkish food is eggplant, rice, often grilled fish, more lamb than beef, some chicken and eggs, stuffed grape leaves, tomatoes, long-cooked beans, olive oil based with aromatic spices, sesame sauces and yoghurt sauces, and beautiful sweets of honey, nuts and dried fruits, wonderful sugary coffee.

Christina,

I think the ignorant fools are the ones who hear the word "bourse" and assume it is a business diistrict and never find out what it really is.

zeppole, the link to the apartment is: www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_176.htm

Another nice convenience is an adjacent Monoprix. The ViP site says the metro is a 2 minute walk but it is only about half that. The building is well maintained, has good security and there are several bus lines within 100 meters. We found the studio to be as advertised, clean and in good shape and the beds were really what is called day beds in that they double as sitting area were very comfortable. A greeting bottle of wine was a nice touch. Everything worked.

FMT, thank you for the info on the restaurant. We'll try it out next month. This is why I love the area.

Dave, I think you're right - you did mess it up for yourself.

We stayed in the 2nd, pre-apartment rental days. We liked it a lot for many of the reasons mentioned above. I think the only reason we haven't been back is that we've become hooked on the 18th...

Hi, Dave:

I stay mostly in the 5th because that's where my friends live.

Other than that, I've stayed in different arrondisements on different trips, because I want to experience a different neighborhood each time. However, never styed in the 2nd, so thanks for the recommendation.

For photos of Rue Montorgueil this work around should work.

www.flickr.com/photos/basingstoke2/sets

Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on 5

The page of sets should come up. Look down near the bottom for a set called Scenes of Rue Montorgueil and click on that.

In upper right, Click on "slideshow" and at first picture click on "show info" for captions.

One thing that makes the 2nd an excellent location is that even if you do not end up liking it (although there is no reason not to), it is very small and central, so many of the other areas in Paris are just a few blocks away.

I rented a small studio on rue Marie Stuart with my daughter last May for 4 nights. We just loved being so close to rue Montorgeuil and how convenient it was to other areas, just like Kerouac points out. We usually rent in the Marais, but I'd love to rent in the 2nd again with hubby on one of our next trips.

We stayed at this apartment in 2006: http://www.vacationinparis.com/apts/id_01.htm

Wasn't, clearly, the fanciest place, but the beds were comfortable and the street, Rue de la Jussienne, is right of the corner with rue Montmartre, with La Tambour on the corner.
