Why do you travel?

I would really like some input on some questions I need to address for my Cultural Anthropology project: Why do you choose to travel? What do you hope to gain from it? Have you had any travel experiences that have changed you in some way? This can be totally annonymous, tell me as little or as much as you like. I have traveled and love to talk about my experiences and have found that other travellers like to rehash their travels as well, so I would love to hear from some of you!! Thanks so much!!

Travel helps you connect with folks from all over the world--fellow travelers as well as folks who live elsewhere who have never been to your home country. I love the food, customs, vistas. It gives you a new perspective of things you took for granted in your home country and helps you understand how others view you and your country. It helps us realize how large and small the world really is!

Wanderlust

MarthaT Mar 26th, 2010 10:26 AM

To see and experience what the rest of the world is like.

tuscanlifeedit Mar 26th, 2010 10:46 AM

To keep from becoming too parochial, too narrow minded, too bored.

I love to see things that are beautiful and inspiring. I love art, and often travel to view great art. I love food and travel to eat new and delicious things. Love scenery. Love nature. All these things make me feel renewed.

I really love luggage, and my life would be less exciting if I didn't have good reasons to shop for luggage. That might sound weird, but I promise that it is true.

So others can wonder how I can afford it :))

StCirq Mar 26th, 2010 10:50 AM

To see and try to understand as many new things as possible.
To try to piece together historical trends around the world.
To remind myself what a fortunate world I was born into.
To eat - everything and anything.
To find beauty.
To make use of the many languages I spent most of my youth studying.
To explore and satisfy my insatiable curiosity.
To try to appreciate the cultural origins of points of view that are vastly different from mine.
To stretch myself and make sure my inherent resourcefulness never gets compromised.

To experience more than the day to day
to see how others live
to expand my horizons
to escape my problems ( and put them in perspective)
to feel alive

Vicky Mar 26th, 2010 11:07 AM

To see beauty,art, theatre
To gain perspective on my life by being physically far away
To imagine what it would be like to live another life
To buy things that will always remind me of my adventures
Because I 'need to' go
Because I need to expand my being by learning
Because I love hotels

Nikki Mar 26th, 2010 11:11 AM

Because I can.

citychicnyc Mar 26th, 2010 11:15 AM

1. i value experiences over material things [rather go on a trip than buy a chanel bag and a pair of louboutins]
2. i work hard and need to reset every few months
3. i love to explore new places, foods, cultures, and lifestyles
4. i like collecting art and photographs from all the beautiful places i visit

btw, the more trips i go on, the more i realize i want to move out of the US one day!

suec1 Mar 26th, 2010 11:24 AM

1) to experience an alternate reality
2) to sit in cafes, drink the house wine and people watch
3) to have trips to plan
4) to have wonderful memories and pictures
6) as Nikki said, becasue I can

To see, explore & experience: history, culture and beauty, both natural and man-made.

citychicnyc Mar 26th, 2010 11:54 AM

Why do you choose to travel?
-Because it is fun.
What do you hope to gain from it?
-See new things have new experiences.
Have you had any travel experiences that have changed you in some way?
-Every trip changes me in some way.

Pegontheroad Mar 26th, 2010 12:34 PM

Because I have to...I get this yearning to go. I'm not at peace unless I'm planning a trip. Once I've taken a trip, it leaves me alone for a while.

But eventually....

HappyTrvlr Mar 26th, 2010 01:26 PM

Because I am very curious. After I travel somewhere, I continue studying and learning more about that place after I return.

SusanP Mar 26th, 2010 01:29 PM

For most of the reasons listed above, but ultimately because I need it for my soul.

Fra_Diavolo Mar 26th, 2010 01:55 PM
