Dear European- do not be upset. This thread has lasted much longer than I thought. I fully expected ethnic hatred to appear around reply 4-6.

What an interesting thread this has been as I've been following it. I first got to Berlin two years ago staying for 5 nights. Friends said, "why so long in Berlin?" I ran out of time and didn't begin to cover my list, yet when I returned home and people asked why I liked Berlin, I really couldn't answer. I think it is all these things and more. I spent the better part of day in the Checkpoint Charlie museum thinking I'd be there maybe an hour. I spent a couple of hours studying the incredible artwork on the remaining section of the wall. The restaurants, streets, and cafes were amazingly alive and buzzing. I am so glad I'm returning for 5 more nights this June.

Berlin has a buzz to it that no other city in Germany has; if fact, that nearly no other city in the rest of Europe has. It is a little wild; it is gritty. I love it. I found it interesting that most Germans I met while living in Munich hated it.

Berlin is just so cool. So much history but so much hope. I loved it.

Berlin is interesting and fascinating. And much, much less expensive than Munich.
