Just wondering why it's called a Big Mac - where does the 'Mac' come from if not from MacDonalds?
From Wikipedia; The third name was the name "Big Mac", which was created by Esther Glickstein Rose, a 21-year-old Advertising Secretary who worked at McDonald’s Corporate Headquarters in Oak Brook, Illinois. So according to PalenQ you are supposed to pronounce McDonalds as MICK Donalds, but it's most famous product is a MAC. Doesn't make sense. Now, back to discussing travel. |
Doesn't have to make sense...that's just the way it is hahaha!
Happy travels! |
My four-year-old calls it "Donald's" and orders nuggets, probably just so she doesn't have to worry about the Mc/Mac issue.
|
Sorry, that's four-year-old granddaughter. Good grief.
|
The French definitely call it McDo. And in fact, I have actually see some "take-away only" locations displaying only the name "McDo" and not McDonald's.
|
I call it McBarfs. I only go in for the clean thrones and white TP.
|
We call it the "American Embassy" because like Americans you run into them all over the world. And frankly it is sometimes fun to try what other counties consider staple fast food, and to give some of it a try.
|
JoanneH, funny. There's no McSchnitzel on the menus here in Vienna! Last fall Vienna was a test market for McNoodles, your choice of a curry noodles box or a sweet and sour box. The Viennese didn't seem to consider the Asian-ish dishes staples, though, and the McNoodles disappeared from the menu after a few months.

"BTW, is that flanner always shot out of a cannon like that, or does it just have something to do with PalenQ?" always, amongst the shells and bullets are gems of information :-) |
bilbo: So you can get a pass for calling someone a "terrorist-supporting Yank moron" by throwing in some obscure info? I'm going to keep that in mind the next time I want call someone an arrogant, colonizing, beans-on-toast-eating limey.

I'm an American Southerner and I usually pronounce Mc as MAC. So I call it Macdonalds.

Well you can say it any way ya want but McDondals in their ads says MickDonalds and the Micky D comes from this I gather. |
I am originally from Kentucky and call it MAC Donalds. My husband is from New York and calls it MICK Donalds. He recently asked me (after four years) why I call it MAC Donalds.
|
Who cares?

I'm not defending him I'm just answering your question. Still I missed your obscure bit of info. :-) |

doubt the beans on toast part - more like cavier on toast with a tony Cotswolds estate with a gardener - the upper upper crust Limey who no doubt eschews beans on toast as for the chattering classes riff-raff. |
I usually call it "whats that effing smell"
last time I was in a Mc Donalds was 7.00am 4th january 2010 Kuwait airport and the only reason i was there was because it was the only bloody place open. |
