Sounds like you'll be making all the decisions on this trip - where to eat, where to go, when to sleap, when to speak etc.

How do you expect people to sign up? That's like the worst travel partner!

Re: "Rex may not be pocketing actual cash from all these oh-so-willing to be led group members of his..."

You said the key word right there: "willing." I don't know Rex from Adam but please tell me where that gun is that he's placing to people's heads, forcing them to go?

Fer cryin' out loud, people willingly choose to go on organized -- loosely or otherwise -- tours all the time. It's not my cuppa joe, but if people enjoy traveling as part of group, then I say go for it.

Okay, I learned my lesson this morning. No more anger. Just facts.

Accusations that I am getting a "comped" room or a free ride or paying one penny less than any of the other participants are the words of a brazen and cowardly liar.

It's libelous, and Fodor's ought to be willing and even happy to investigate the IP of this malicious posting.

And no, I will not make all the decisions of where the group goes; there will be freedom to make separate dining plans, side trips of half days, overnights or longer.

The postings at 6:09 pm and 6:16 pm are from petty jealous people who deserve to be depressed at their slithery snake-like behavior, once they realize how low they really are.

Imagine what I would have said if I were mad.

Then if Rex can troll for customers, so should everyone else. All purchase decisions are those of the buyer, so why should ANY advertiser be restricted from promoting their business here?

Because it is against the policies of the host site, FODOR'S.

Rex buddy, you don't have to worry about anyone who questions your motives or opportunities, because you don't need any help chasing people away. You're digging your own grave with the constant insults, name-calling and shrill hysteria that characterizes all your posts. Why would ANYONE allow you to "plan" their trip for them, much less want to travel with you? You can't handle the slightest irritation and are constantly on the shrill defensive because you are unwilling/unable to let anything roll off your back. You're the type most try to AVOID traveling with, no one wants that kind of aggravation and tension during their vacation. Sheesh.

Re: "Because it [trolling for customers] is against the policies of the host site, FODOR'S.

Point understood, thanks. And I agree with that policy, that a travel message board shouldn't be used by people as a vehicle to drum up business for their personal gain.

However, I guess it then depends on whether or not "putting together a trip" qualifies as "trolling for customers", or drumming up business for personal gain, in the eyes of the host site administrators. If you feel that it does, I'd suggest directing your concerns to them and I'd assume they would be the ones to make that decision.

If "Fodor's ought to be willing and even happy to investigate the IP of this malicious posting" then I hope they are equally willing to enforce their own site rules and delete your constant personal promotion here.

Rex, you are quite funny, if your anger and name-calling doesn't frighten off your dissenters, then you resort to threats -- you'll have Fodor's investigate all the IPs of your naysayers!! They may even come to your house and arrest you, or at the very least, slap you with a multi-million dollar lawsuit!! Yeah, that's why Fodor's maintains this site, so they can vigorously prosecute all those who try to thwart Rex Bicker's business promotion on their site. Better get ready for those countersuits Rex, because you've lobbed more names and insults at people than anyone on this site. You may want to consider less time planning trips and more time in anger management classes.

You are as pathetically ridiculous as you are laughable!! hahahahaha!

The business people who troll Fodor's for customers are savvy enough by now to realize that if they announce their business intentions/affiliations, they will be drummed off the site and their posts deleted. You won't find anyone here who admits to benefiting financially from their posts on Fodor's, but what you WILL find are vehement denials of any profit, gain, advertising or promotion, but make no mistake, they are HERE. So if I post and say hey, give me money and I'll plan your trip for you, but I'm not in business, it's just a hobby, I'm not making money or benefitting in any way, you can't prove it, but if you dare try to criticize my posts or presence or here I'll get REALLY vicious! Who has THAT much stake in posting on a travel site and will get THAT defensive about it except someone who doesn't want access to a free target market to be curtailed?

ACK!
I tried *really* hard to stay away from this one.
some of these posts are just a lose-lose situation.
But my will power is not strong enough to overcome my urge.....
While I do not always agree with Rex's manner, that is not my business.
1-If I was really annoyed by his posts, I would not read them.
2-Who cares if he gets a free room for planning a big trip?
Does this really have an impact on your life?
3- Not my cup of tea, but this maybe perfect for some, and I must admit to some curiosity about fellow posters.
I would love it if there was a Fodor meeting in my neck of the woods.
And if I was there I would definitely pop in,
4-and who is to say that Rex will be making ALL decisions?
This sounds like a great way to stay someplace lovely, for a VERY reasonable price!
the most annoying thing is posters who need to express their ill tempers on this site.
As Capo said, no one is holding a gun to anyone's head.

(Also, leave Dr. Abate out of this.
He maybe misunderstood, or even a self promoting pain, but he had great suggestions for me on my learning the italian language thread I posted last year.

I think you anonymous critizing posters are taking this WAY too seriously. This trip of ours is really just people hooking up to travel together more cheaply, to enjoy other traveler's company and benefit from other's experience. Last time I looked, people actually do this quite a bit on the internet - it is called finding traveling companions. Rex likes to organize and he knows certain things about group travel. That's about the long and short of it.

Peronally I wish all you complainers woyld SHUT UP! If you don't like Rex's posts , don't read them. No one is twisting your arm! If some people want to travel as a group, what is it to you. maybe they would not go otherwise. He seems to have the knack for organization so let him be. i find he usually offers good suggestions, .You say he setting himself up as an expert, what do you think you do when you rspond to a message. I personally enjoy his posts

Oh my God, shades of MauiHeidi! "If you don't like it don't read it" but don't DARE to intefere with our advertising and promotional schemes on Fodor's! Someone else hit the nail on the head...who is that shrill about protecting their "interests" on Fodor's except those who are profiting by posting here?

Here's the original post before Rex edited and repasted it! How do you plant to cut, paste and delete your insane outbursts when you're "leading" your tour groups, Rex? Real life doesn't have a rewind and edit button, now does it?

I remember MauiHeidi on the U.S. Travel Talk. She was the Hawaiian travel agent who parked herself on Fodor's day and night and incessantly offered her "unbiased" advice about Hawaii. No one could ever beat her to a response about the islands, because she spent all her time promoting Hawaii, topping her own threads and encouraging everyone to contact her. She tried to dismiss anyone who questioned her presence, then arrogantly announced that she planned to "host" her own Hawaii column on the U.S. site! I think that was the final straw for many who were sick of her endless self-promotion, and Fodor's finally deleted her topics. She bowed out at last, whether on her own or by "invitation" from Fodor's, who knows, but she didn't go quietly or willingly. She was sitting pretty on Fodor's for a long time and had too much to lose.

I see a lot of similarities between her tactics and those of Rex. Heidi was bounced. Why is it O.K. for Rex to practice the same techniques, yet remain here untouched? If Rex can promote, why not everyone else, including Heidi? Are the Fodor's rules just "eye candy" for its site visitors?

Gee, how many times do you suppose Rex will cut and paste this same topic in order to promote his self interests without having to explain himself and his violations of Fodor's advertising rules? To the TOP!

Rex: I have to respond to a recent post by you: You're wrong--all the negative posts AREN'T coming from one person--trust me on this. Personally, I no longer care about what you're doing. However, I AM laughing out loud at the recent, and very clever "Rex's Web site" posts, so I'll keep reading, which will keep putting you at the top, so it's a win-win for everyone!
