Who is going to be in Paris this month?

When I see the GTG threads I always wish I could be there. Well I'm going to be there this month and I don't see any GTG threads.

Anyone?

denisea Jun 7th, 2012 05:28 AM

Only in my mind....we are going to Rome this year but I just finished "The House I Loved" by Tatiana de Rosnay and it makes me miss Paris! I hope you can find a group to celebrate with!

ruedebuci Jun 7th, 2012 10:56 PM

Thanks denisea.

So no one?

DreamOfItalia Jun 8th, 2012 02:19 AM

My husband and I leave for Paris on June 27th. Upon our arrival to Paris, we are hoping on a train to Caen. We are bsck in Paris on July 7th.

AGM_Cape_Cod Jun 8th, 2012 04:29 AM

We arriving in Paris on Jun 30 and leaving on the 3rd.

moolyn Jun 8th, 2012 08:21 AM

We're presently in the Dordogne and will be in Paris June 22nd to the 29th, staying in the 5th near Shakespeare and Company.

I have Moveable Feast on my bedside table but haven't started it yet.

AGM_Cape_Cod Jun 8th, 2012 08:49 AM

moolyn, our trip is the same as yours-Dordogne and then Paris. Where are you staying in the Dordogne?

moolyn Jun 8th, 2012 01:00 PM

We have a house exchange near Les Milandes. Where are you?

AGM_Cape_Cod Jun 12th, 2012 04:37 AM

We have taken a gite on D57 between Sarlat and Beynac. We got GPS coordinates rather than a street address. Should be interesting to find it our first day.

lifes2short Jun 12th, 2012 06:56 AM

ruedebuci---my adult daughter and I will be in Paris from June 20-28, and would love to meet up with you...maybe for Thai ?!

I had noticed your thread for a few days and could not have dreamt I'd be posting on it, yet here I am. We just booked our flights 2 hours ago! It's all quite crazy---never in my wildest imagination would we have planned a Paris trip on 1 week's notice.

Our Paris trip last summer was fantastic, but ended in a somewhat unsatisfying manner (spending our next-to-last full day queued up at Versalles, since DD had not been before). This trip, it's all about chilling, taking each day as it comes, and just enjoying Paris.

Guessing you'll be staying in the 6th ? We'd be glad to meet you there or anywhere, if our dates coincide.

moolyn Jun 12th, 2012 07:18 AM

AGM, that's close to where we are. When do you arrive? We leave June 20th for the Loire then Paris.

AGM_Cape_Cod Jun 12th, 2012 07:59 AM

We will miss you-arriving on Sunday the 24th. Sorry to miss you. Then going to Paris on the 30th. We are curious about boulangeries for breakfast or cafe since my DH prefers the cafe creme to what he could make himself. Any suggestions for petite dejeuner?

moolyn Jun 12th, 2012 11:35 AM

So sorry to miss you and I can't recommend a place for petite dejeuner as I'm a celiac and always eat breakfast at home. Pas de pain pour moi!

If you're at the south end of the D57, near the river, the boulangerie on the east side beside the river in Castelnaud is highly regarded. My husband gets his baguettes there.

ruedebuci Jun 13th, 2012 01:00 PM

lifes2short sure I'd like to try the Thai place rec'd on the other thread I posted http://www.lesrestos.com/fiche-resta...HAI/1025429735

I leave Friday! Staying for 10 days. I have nothing planned except a list of restos I want to try or return to.

I'm staying in Paris the whole time because that is how I roll. People keep asking me if I'm going anywhere else, nope.

Let me know which days are good for you.

ruedebuci Jun 13th, 2012 01:14 PM

Just for fun, here is my list of restos:

new (for me):
Ze Kichen Galerie
Cafe Constant
Les Ombres
Le Dali
Entrecote
Le Chiberta
L'Obe
Le Grand Colbert
Palace Thai

must return to:
Les Bouquinistes
L'Hotel

I need to add a Mexican resto to this list. Any rec's?

Also if anyone has a favorite resto they go to for steak with bearnaise sauce I'm all ears.

lifes2short Jun 13th, 2012 06:42 PM

rue...Thai Palace sounds great to us. If DD has her way, we'll be in the 7th as often as possible anyway (she's an ET addict !) Any night between June 21 and 27 (inclusive) would work for us. We can stay in touch via Fodor's to firm up plans, or via email if you prefer.

Like you, I have always wanted to join a Fodor's GTG, especially in Paris !
I also am of the same mind as you when it comes to just hanging in Paris--that's how we roll, too, at least for this trip.

Have a safe, pleasant flight !

ruedebuci Jun 15th, 2012 10:46 AM

How come I can't find the private message function on this board?

life2short I have no way to contact you. I leave in about 1.5 hours.

Due to a bad experience, I can not post any private details on this public board. Sorry.

kerouac Jun 15th, 2012 11:57 AM

There is no private message function on this board. You must rendezvous on another board to send private messages.

lifes2short Jun 15th, 2012 03:54 PM

rue...hope you're enjoying your flight. No worries about needing to send PM's. I don't care to broadcast my email address either, so I still think we can make this work by using Fodor's. OR, if you are on TA, simply post a note on this thread to that effect, and I will post my TA screenname, so that you can PM me there. (I don't do facebook.)

Since my DD and I do not arrive till Weds.6/20, we'll defer to you to pick day and time for meeting at Thai Palace. or wherever !

ruedebuci Jun 27th, 2012 06:01 AM

Back at home now, sorry I missed you lifes2short!

moolyn Jun 30th, 2012 03:26 AM

We accidentally met up with another Fodorite in Paris, printemps, who was staying in the ParisBestLodge apartment above us on Rue Galande.

We were lugging our stuff downstairs at the same time yesterday morning to get to flights leaving CDG at the same time and ended up deciding to share a cab.

Only on the ride to the airport did we discover that we both posted on Fodors!

Regarding not being able to PM on this board, do what many of us do and set up a specific email address that you don't mind sharing online, using your screen name.

lifes2short Jun 30th, 2012 12:38 PM

rue...we are also back (albeit a day later than scheduled--more on that when I get around to starting a separate thread)and had a splendid vacation. Hope yours was as good and that you will post a TR.

I thought of you, rue, many times over the course of our trip, and esp.when we would pass Thai Palace on the 87 bus ! Did you get to have dinner there ?

Thanks, moolyn, for the excellent and sensible suggestion for setting up another email address next time we need to communicate via email for meet-ups, etc. I love your story about bumping into other fodorites. And while we did not stay at one of Thierry's properties, he still had a hand in our getting a great place.

This was my 3rd Paris trip in 2 years, and my great fortune in that regard is not lost on me. Had not written a Paris TR since 2006, but may do so this time, if only because there were a few oddities in the planning and execution. One thing I'll want to mention is that it is indeed possible to pull off a fantastic Paris trip (with apartment) on 1 week's notice. The apartment where we stayed deserves a huge thumbs-up review, so I need to get busy on that. Finally, for anyone considering an airport shuttle (I know, I know), especially one specific shuttle service with a major following on this forum, I'll be describing our experience when the shuttle was a no-show for our return to CDG.

So, more to come. Sorry if these last few notes are a hijack of the thread---but maybe not, since it's now the end of the month !

Again, rue, so sorry we missed connecting with you...it will be interesting to find out whether we WERE in the same specific place at the same time.

latedaytraveler Jun 30th, 2012 12:58 PM

Moonlyn,

“I have Moveable Feast on my bedside table but haven't started it yet.”

Try to find time to read it – really gets you in the mood for Paris. You might consider HEMINGWAY PARIS WALKS which I just took in Paris. Meets at Cardinal Lemoine Metro on Friday mornings at 10:30. It covers Hem’s old Mouffetard neighborhood. Excellent. I describe the walk in my recent TP under “Friday, June 8.”

Ruedebuci, love that name. Early this month I stayed about half way down the nearby rue Dauphine and ate most nights at one of the many cafes on the Rue de Buci.

Best to all going to Paris…

moolyn Jul 1st, 2012 01:13 AM

life2short, I'd love to read your report. I'm hoping to do one as well. We also did a house exchange in the Dordogne this trip.

latedaytraveller, I definitely will read Moveable Feast, especially since we may have an exchange with a family in the Rue Mouffetard neighborhood next year. I'll look for your trip report. The Paris Wife was one of my book club selections this past year and we watched Midnight in Paris last night until jet lag did us in.

ruedebuci Aug 1st, 2012 04:33 AM

I really need to check my threads, I'm sorry!

moolyn thanks for the tip, I will do that!

lifes2short where is your trip report? I never made it to the Thai palace, but happened upon another Thai resto right on rue Dauphine that I couldn't pass up, and it was delicious.

latedaytraveler I'm glad you like the area. Most likely I will be back in Paris next mid-July 2013 for the fete, any chance you will be there at that time and we could go cafe hopping?

lifes2short Aug 1st, 2012 05:54 PM

rue...your shout-out reminds me that I haven't yet done a TR. Not sure I will do an official report, but I will definitely be sure to post something soon--if for no other reason than to share our beyond-crappy Shuttle-Inter experience.

Glad you found some great Thai food, and I'm so envious that you are already planning your next visit to Paris !

ruedebuci Aug 1st, 2012 07:57 PM

I'm always planning my next trip, that is the only way I can survive!
