Who is familiar with the Venice Card?

I would like to know if there has been anyone who has purchased and used the Venice card and whether it is of value.<BR><BR>

The new Venice Card is "nearly mandatory" for visitors. It is the city's way of dealing with over tourism. Read more about it at: <BR>If you are planning on visiting Venice you should read this Seattle Times Article (copyright Washington Post written by Daniel Williams) on the new Visitor Card, intended to control the number of visitors:<BR><BR>http://seattletimes.nwsource.com/text/134401211_venice10.html<BR><BR>

Chris, Thanks for the info

We were just in Venice this past February (for 4 days). I had heard about the Venice card but never saw it being sold and didn't feel I needed it. We walked most everywhere as Venice is really not *that* big. Once, we took a water taxi, more for the ride and the experience rather than to get from point A to B. I never understood the thing about public bathrooms either. It's not as if restaurants don't let you use the toilets (as long as you buy something there).

The article that chris refers to (thanks chris)mentions that this card is, or may become, MANDATORY.

I am contemplating buying this myself for September. Check out the website venicecard.it. The english option is not available yet, unfortunately!

If you want a good deal of information on the Venice Card in English, with all of the particulars itemized, go here:<BR><BR>http://translate.google.com/translate?hl=en&sl=it&u=http://www.venicecard.it/prodotto.htm&prev=/search%3Fq%3Dvenicecard%26hl%3Den<BR><BR>Click on the links on the left of the page for costs, conditions, etc.<BR><BR>The English is occasionally rather broken (it's a google translation), but it's otherwise pretty clear.<BR><BR>Hope this helps!<BR>tania<BR>

I've my doubts that this card will ever be mandatory. What "spoils" Venice are daytrippers. Most don't spend (in taxes) what they cost to the city. I can't immagine a visitor staying overnight, having dinner and such, being denied transportation and museum entry. As long as they sell vaporetto passes and museum entry passes, I can't see them giving preference for venice card holders. Anyway, while the card is not mandatory, it's really a bad deal ... unless you've got a diarrea (as Carlo pointed out in another post). Get the transportation pass and the museum pass (for the group of museums you intend to visit) and forget about the restrooms.
