Who is Bob the Navigator?
Who is this poster and who does he work for?
I don't know, except that he gives very good and often detailed posts. He offered me a lot of advice last year regarding very southern Italy -- and even emailed a whole travel report directly to me. I've never seen anything from him that could possibly be construed as an advertisement, so I have no idea what he does for a living.

So Bob, are you here? Who DO you work for?
Bob's a contributor to this forum like everyone else is, however, he has extensive experience traveling in Switzerland, France, Italy and Spain. He has also written some articles that can be found on different travel sites. I believe Bob is retired, and on the side he does help people with their itineraries, however, the advise that Bob gives on this forum is free to all.
Stick around, Duke and you'll figure out who Bob is. Just to get you started--he's one of the most knowledgeable Fodorites regarding travel in Italy. He's very willing to share information with other Fodorites.

Go to the text search box at the top of your page and type in Navigator (the search function likes one-word requests), go over to the box on the right and scroll down and highlight Italy. Then press find. You'll can spend several hours perusing the messages that come up from the archives and you'll get a handle on who Bob is.

Yes, he is retired.
Ditto to all the above. A great and very generous resource to this board for a long time.
Thanks to all. I was not sure if he was an employee of Fodor etc!
Mille grazie to Patrick, Leslie, and Maribel. You are very kind.
Duke, I am just a retired IBM guy who has a passion for Euro travel and the good fortune to have done it many times. I have been a regular on this forum for more than 5 years and try to be a frequent contributor. I also spend some time at the slowtrav.com site. You can see some of my aricles there--travel tips, a budget article, and a couple of trip reports. However, I am curious why you thought I worked for anyone. My handle is a carryover from my airforce days when I was a navigator in B-52s. Can I help you in some way??
oops ! Sorry Betsy--I missed you, but you know I love you.
Thank you Mr. Little. Please stick around another 5 more years or 50 more! Your sage advice is always appreciated. I plan to go to Germany/Austria this year and will look up your many good posts here and from Slowtrav.
Apology accepted, Bob. Didn't know the origin of your Navigator handle--thought it was related to your earthly travels. My dad was a B-52 pilot in the Air Force!
Bob I don't need your advice this year since most of my travel will be in Spain and the USA.However Italy is a consideration for next year and I hope you will be still offering your comments at the time we start planning.
Duke, I do know a bit about Spain--will be taking my 4th trip there over Holy Week this year. However, our resident expert on Spain is Maribel above--she is the guru. Do a search using her name and Spain and you will be amazed--she is good!
I'll second the recommendation for Maribel!
Bob, how funny. When we travel I'm the "navigator" and my partner is the driver. I always assumed the name just referred to your navigational skills on the ground, but it is so much more than that!!
Bob & Ben Haines are two of the greatest gentlemen on this board. They have never failed to assist a fellow traveler, and have been a positive, reliable, welcome presence on this board for some time now.

BC
this is old home week...hi bookchick and bobthenavigator.

Bookchick? are you planning a trip this year?

Hi Erin,
I was actually supposed to have returned from Rome today, but I didn't go to begin with. My mother is in the hospital, and is seriously ill, so I won't be going anywhere until her medical situation is a little more clearly outlined.

Thanks for asking,
BC
Buona sera Bookchick !
Sorry to hear about your mother. We will all pray for her.
Now that you mention it, didn't Ben Haines and I get " Knighted" on the forum some time ago. I have been looking for the official document from the UK--maybe Ben got his. Grazie !
I agree with all of the above. Bob and Ben have always been gentlemen and both have incredable knowledge and are always willing to share.
Hi Bob,
if you check this post again, I want to up date you on my wedding plans.
I pushed the date up to mid Sept. and will be having the reception at Laconda Cipriani, the rehersal dinner at Da Raffle( thanks to you) and the Sun. luncheon at La Rivista( thanks to Elaine) my wedding coordinator is working on the dtails from Italy,
she could not believe all the details I had doing my research from the states.I told her it was thanks to you and Elaine, and all the other generous posterson Fodors.
I will write a post when I return.
Much love and thanks to you , and Elaine.
Fluffy

We have so many excellent resources on this board and I'm glad we have them. Ben Haines has helped me many times. And I look forward to the day when I can glean advice from Bob for future Italy, etc. trips.

Bookie, I'm sorry about your mother and that you didn't get to go. I hope your mom is doing well.
BOB--- you remain thru the years one of the best, most knowledgeable and trusted sources of travel info in this forum. If Bob recommends it, take it for a fact that he have been there and therefore, knows what he is talking about! For my 1999 trip to Portugal I was so glad to followed his advice. It was a memorable trip. I can only wish lots of goog blessings upon him and his family for all the kindness. Tons of great people in this forum; Ben, Maribel (what a pro!), Elaine, to name a few. Their posts are always so giving and encouraging!!
first to you, Bbookchick, my prayers are with you that all will be well.
And to Bob the navigator like ben Haines, makes us feel we should travel where they have been because of their wonderful attitudes. As for you Beatchick, Have a wonderful time, as I read you will be going next week?
My dear friend, Cigalechanta, I am going in 2 weeks!! You still want me to bring back a Poilane bag for you?
You are very welcome Fluffy. I hope it all works well for you--I am just a romantic at heart and a sucker for honeymoons.
