:)) Markrosy, you made me laugh out loud! It is so true, though, isn't it? Sometimes I wonder how European winters can even be called winter! :) If that's all they get I want part of the action.

That will be all the Co2 that eminates from the US - nicely warming the Atlantic to leave us with a perma-blanket of nimbostratus. Saw the sun last week for the first time in six months.
Galileo could never have been British - you have to see the sun to realise that we revolve round it. Particularly liked your "stuff you" post in the lounge - agreed with all and gave up around the same time. That place swings from the inane to the ridiculous. Time more people spent their energies on the reason why we come here - travel - good to hear from you. any travel planned? Mark |
Hey - great to hear from someone with similar...um...lounge sentiments. Now that I am spending my time in this forum I am wondering what the heck I was thinking before!!! :))
Anyway, no trips booked yet. I am unfortunately awaiting back surgery - the wait could be 4-6 months. Don't know how I will do it (am in a great deal of pain). However, our next trip will most likely be either Turkey or Bosnia. Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania and Poland are also in the mix. We are smitten with Central/Eastern Europe. How 'bout you? (So sorry, newtraveller, to hijack this thread. Just catching up! :)) |

A lot of the clever money is heading for Slovenia, Slovakia and Croatia this year. Beautiful scenery and they all have the buzz of "new" Europe. We are off to The Abacos in June - Marlin fishing and tickling the tummies of sharks according to my son. Looks like bliss. Happy hunting! |
need to think about certainty of snow. At christmas you either go north of the artic circle or scandinavia or in central europe but near glaciers. Slovenia is not that certain
|
Indeed hoping for a white Christmas.... we're spending the holidays in Germany and Austria!!

north of the artic circle isn't assured of snow at Christmas due to the warming Gulf stream. We were in Tromso for NYE last. It snowed only very lightly and there was no ground cover. Most of the dog sled trips had been cancelled - you may have to go miles inland to be sure of seeing deep snow. |
You are right I tend to go to finland and even here we had to make do with 600mm.
I think Tromso has always "suffered" from the gulf stream. I have a vague recollection that is on the sea which must have an effect as well |
It is - (actually on an island) surrounded by the mainland and other islands.
It was a little suprising to travel so far north in winter and experience higher temperatures than the UK. However, we did go on a trip inland and within 10 miles the temperatures dropped from 1oC to -15oC. The influence of the sea on local conditions is that pronounced. |
