Whiskey Smoked Fish

Did anyone see the Travel Channel and know the remote place in ireland where they smoke fish (salmon I think) in barrels that have aged whisky for 100s of years (they use chips from the barrel to smoke the fish). I'm dying to find it so I can take my husband there while we are in Ireland!

Which show?

According to the first hit on google, you can by it at Waitrose grocery stores.
Not quite as romantic.

Salmon at Waitrose
No other supermarket has a wider range of smoked salmon, including one that’s smoked over chippings from old whisky barrels.

I don't remember the name of the show, but the place they make and serve the fish is either a restaurant, hotel or both. It was defintely near the coast. Any other can't miss restaurants rec's would be appreciated.

Do you remember what date and what time you saw this show? Sorry, but can't help you without more info. Was the host a man or a woman? What places did they visit besides the one with the whiskey fish. Need more clues.

Samantha Brown did a show on Glasgow, Scotland which first aired on 8/14 - Passport to Eurpoe with Samantha Brown. It will air again on August 24 (2X) and August 27 but it doesn't say anything in the description about whiskey smoked fish.

Waitrose don't sell whiskey smoked salmon. They make a point of selling only Scottish salmon: as their website makes clear that range includes one smoked over chippings from old whisky barrels.

Since you can always rely on the Partnership to be precise about these things, the barrels wou;ld have been used to make Scotch whisky, not Irish whiskey.

A few minutes' googling does throw up an Irish product called Howth Smokehouse salmon. Howth is most certainly not remote (it's on the Dublin metro), but that probably wouldn't stop an American TV programme from pretending it is.

Watched Samantha Brown in Glasgow this evening - nothing about Whiskey Smoked Fish.

Maybe this show will be it:

Ireland Coast

Samantha Brown takes off into the countryside of the Emerald Isle to explore the counties of Kerry and Cork. There's no denying the effect a visit to the Irish countryside will have on those who travel here, but it's the people you will remember the most.
