Whiskey

I want to take a bottle of bourbon to a friend in France. What is required?

If you purchase the bourbon before going through airport security and you try to carry it on board it will be confiscated by TSA, thank you. If you pack it in your checked luggage, carefully, it may still be in your bag when you arrive. TSA searches a lot of bags and some employees steal. If you buy it in the duty free area of your last US airport you can bring it on the plane. Then if you make a plane change in Europe before your final destination it will probably be confiscated, thank you.

Forgot to mention that when you arrive in France declare it if you are asked. Otherwise just walk through the "Nothing to Declare" door. It is OK to bring a bottle into France.

Purchase it at the Duty Free shop at the airport when you leave the country, or else carefully pack it into a checked bag.

If you do get it at Duty Free, then be sure you have no further connections requiring you to go through security, else your bottle will become a donation.

Sounds like a nice gift.
