Which Yorkshire Dales drive?

Jump to last reply

I’d like some advice on driving between Middleham and Bough Castle on a Sunday in June. I’ve been considering two options:

(1) heading west from Middleham on the A684 and then north via the B6259 and then B685 to Brough Castle OR

(2) heading north from Middleham on the Whipperdale Bank road to Reeth, and then taking a road the map refers to as Raw Bank and Long Causeway into Brough.

According to Google maps, the latter route is a bit shorter and quicker, but not significantly so. Can anyone tell me whether the scenery/points of interest or driving conditions would recommend one route over the other?

Note: We will already have had the opportunity to explore Wensleydale and Swaledale, so we aren’t concerned about including either on the trek to Brough.

Any advice would be much appreciated.
