I visited both last year in May and preferred Salzburg by a long shot. You may want to look into visiting the beautiful lake town of Hallstatt as well which is an easy drive from Salzburg.

Insbruck, notInsbrook, has less charm than Salzburg in my opinion. I think 2 full days will enable you to do Salzburg justice; 3 days would be icing on the cake. If you go to Schloss Hellbrunn and the Marionetten Theater, and take the guided tour of the Festspielhaus, you will need at least 2.5 days.

Salzburg.This is my 3rd trip. The first was in a youth hostel in college, and the charm has drawn me back again. I hope you have a terrific trip whichever you choose.

I don't like Innsbruck at all. The view of the mountains is beautiful, but I find the city rather commercial. Salzburg is much more charming, very "Sound of Music."
