La Spezia to Vernazza

In my book "best" is by ferry. I can think of no more spectacular way to see all 5 Terre and to arrive in Vernazza. If the weather isn't nice enough for a ferry, then train.
If your definition of "best" is something else, the please let us know what that is.

Are you arriving in La Spezia by train (and thus know your arrival time)? Or are you driving and returning a car in La Spezia?
The ferry is a great ride, but, if you have to wait 1-2 hours for the next ferry, you might wish you had just hopped on a train at La Spezia. You should check the ferry schedule. Trains depart at 10-20 minute intervals, and the journey takes 18 minutes. Also, where is your hotel in relation to the train station and the ferry dock? With luggage, you might prefer the walk to the hotel from one over the other.
