Which tour should we choose in Scotland?
 

We are traveling with a group in June to Edinburgh and need to choose one of three tours for a day: Choices are: Britannia & Holyrood, Rosslyn Chapel Tour or Stirling & Bannockburn. Any thoughts on these choices would be greatly appreciated. This will be our first visit to Scotland.

Well - what sorts of things do YOU want to see/do? That would be the deciding factor IMO.

All have things to recommend them -- so do you want to stay in Edinburgh and see the Yacht? BTW -- Why do you need a tour to see Holyrood and the Britannia since they are both in Edinburgh and easily reached by bus, or in the case of Holyrood, on foot?

Or do you want to see a massive castle - similar to Edinburgh Castle - only more so.

Rosslyn Chapel can be done as a guided tour - or you can get there by public bus for much less ££.

This is a pre planned day for us...I was leaning towards Stirling & Bannockburn. We just found out that we are going and have to make a few quick decisions so appreciate your comments on the other tours being right in the city. We will have a couple of days on our own so any thoughts on where to go would be great. We will have already gone golfing at St. Andrews. We plan to rent a car.

If you have to choose one of the tours, the Stirling tour would be the best as you have free days in Edinburgh to do the other things. Roslin is easily reached by bus (or car) and Holyrood and Britannia are right on the main bus lines. We liked Stirling castle a lot.

If you're planning on a couple days in Edinburgh, a car won't be necessary (or even advisable - parking in the city can be a challenge!).

Roslyn chapel can be easily done on your own time, bus from town takes about 30min, the chapel isn't huge so spending an hour (even with a tour) is probably the most time you'll need. Also, I was there over easter and the whole ouside of the chapel is covered in scaffolding for restoration, which takes away from the photo ops of the outside (there are no photos allowed inside) but you can climb up it and take close up pictures of the exterior structure.

Thank you again for the great information & warning on parking! We do plan to go to Stirling and try to hit Rosslyn on one of our free days in the city.

If you do go to Stirling the castle is magnificent with its royal palace and restored great hall plus the tapestry project.

Also try to visit the Wallace Monument which is very interesting and has tremendous views from the top.
