Which side of the border?
A Fodorite from Canada mentioned that she thought Rick Steve's had a Canadian accent. This sparked a lively debate among friends. Our votes were divided between Minnesota and Wisconsin. Does anyone know where he is from?

Born and raised in Seattle, an accomplished pianist, met Steve on one of his book tours.

I just finished reading his 'Postcards from Europe'. His parents were born in Canada and migrated south. Seatle is what, 20 miles from the border? So they didn't get far. The book has some funny anecdotes, some of it is so-so, but it was worth the price since it came free with a bag I bought from his company via his web-site.

I thought he sounded either Canadian or like those people in the Fargo movie.
|
Yah. You betcha. He does have that Fargo sound.

It's interesting that he's from the Seattle area. I wonder if he grew up in one of those Scandinavian neighborhoods up there?

I read Steves' postcard book last year, so I have an excuse for forgetting which of the Scandinavian country his family hails from. But there are strong ties there. If I had to guess, I'd say I think I remember it was Norway.
|
Yes it is Norway. He mentions several times in his book that he visits relatives there often.
