Which Seville Restaurant?

I'll be in Seville next month. Arriving on a Sunday and leaving on Thurs.
I made a reservation at Egana Oriza b/c I had heard it was one of the few "must go's" in the city.
But for the rest of the time I was wanting to get some opinions:

(1) I'm trying to chose between Enrigue Becerra or Poncio for one night. Which one would you recommend?

(2) Since I'm arriving on Sunday, and a lot of places are closed then, where would you recommend for dinner? Should we just do a tapas crawl? Are they open on Sundays?

(3) I'm taking a day-trip to Granada. Arriving there at 10am, entering the Alhambra at 2pm, and leaving Granada at 8:30pm. Where would you recommend for a good lunch before we go to the Alhambra. I heard that Bodegas Castenadas was really good. Any info?

Thanks!

Hi Heeney,

I had a great lunch last October at San Fernando 27. Not your usual andalusian fare, and it was really surprising :

I still remember the "tosta de chopitos" ( tiny squids fried over an ink sauce with a soft egg ) and the pan-chocolate dessert ( bread ice-cream with three chocolates and an olive oil bullet).

Bye, Cova

Thanks Cova!

I'll check that one out.

I would definitely choose Poncio.

Yes, many tapas bars will be open on Sun. night. I would do a tapas crawl then. But the one you should try to fit in during your stay, Bodeguita Casablanca, is closed on Sun. It's across from the Archivo de Indias on Adolfo Rodríguez Juarado 12.

But there are plenty more that will fit the bill-Modesto, Bar Estrella,
La Albariza (in Triana), Bodeguita Romero, Taberna Coloniales, El Rinconcillo, to name a few...

I've heard great things about San Fernando 27 as well.

Also Abantal and Az-Zait (both closed Sun. nights).

I was very underwhelmed by Bodegas Castañeda on a recent Granada trip.
We enjoyed Puerta del Carmen downtown on Plaza Carmen much more. We didn't do a sit-down, just had tapas at the bar.

I really liked Poncio - had the tasting menu for lunch - very interesting. Egna Oriza is wonderful - be sure to stop off at the tapas bar during the day for a nibble. Tried Becerra - which is a bit more home style.

Maribel, you should check Carlos Herrera´s favourite places list.

Actually, now that I think about it, you share many places with him.

He is a bit of a gourmet, and you can never go wrong with his recommendations.

Hi cova,
Yes, I see he and I share some favorites. I was going to mention Los Cuevas as well and Casa Román on the Plaza de los Venerables for jamón de bellota. I see Carlos has both on his list.

Great page to have in my favorites.
ThanksĄ

Rgds,
Maribel
