Which Rome Neighborhood?
 

Hi there, I have read the many suggestions regarding renting an apt in Rome, and look forward to doing so. This will be my first trip to Rome, and I'm wondering which neighborhoods would be more affordable as they are not in the center, but still within say 15-30 minutes walking distance to the main attractions so we don't have to take cabs etc. Thanks for your assistance!

I stayed in Prati, a quiet neighborhood that's located across the Tiber river and is closer to the Vatican. It was an easy 20 minute walk to the more touristy spots like Piazza Navona and the Spanish Steps.

We stayed a few blocks from the Vatican and 10 min. from the river with the St. Peter apartment with comfortitalia. We were close to everything, walking to the Spanish Steps and to the Forum with no problem.

You can still find some inexpensive places in Trastevere. I've actually stayed at a couple of inexpensive places in the "center," one fairly recently (May).

Also planning a trip to Rome. What is considered an "affordable" per night (double occ.) in Rome?

Maybe we should ban the use of terms like "affordable", "reasonable", or "well-priced" and simply have people indicate a dollar (or euro) figure. What is affordable to Donald Trump is not affordable to me.

To the OP and BobnCheryl: The last apartment (low on the glamour-factor, but a stone's-throw from Campo dei Fiori) I stayed at was 98E a night.

On the other hand, I've stayed at a junior suite at the del Senato: I want to say that was abpout 350E.

I liked both places just fine.
