Which rental car pick-up location is closest to the Pantheon?

Hi! Has anyone picked up a rental car close to the Pantheon? Our hotel is close to the Pantheon, and we'll need to pick up our rental car on our last day in Rome to drive to Tuscany. Or should we avoid downtown Rome? Please help! We're using Hertz since we got the best rate (if you do a prepaid rate, it includes all the insurance). But since all the Hertz reps are in the US, they have no idea which pick up location will be the most convenient for us. Thank you!

Recommend you pick up the car at the Rome Termini train station. We used Avis, booked through AutoEurope. They gave us excellent driving directions to exit Rome and head north to Tuscany. The taxi from our hotel (near the Pantheon) was about $12 with tip. We called for a pick up and had luggage for 4 persons.

I agree that Termini is close; two others are similar distance: the sottoterraneo car park at Borghese and the Vatican location.

But a compromise between proximity and avoiding city driving would be the location on Flaminio Nuova. Alomost a no-brainer to get out of Rome from there, and pperhaps no more than $5-10 more cab fare to get there.

Or if you want essentially zero city driving (but at double-triple the cab fare), then Via Cassia 1171 is essentially right AT the GRA ("beltway") on the north side, right where you need to be headed.

Best wishes,

Rex

I also agree re: Termini location. From there the access to the highway is pretty straight forward and quick. Driving in the Pantheon area is horrible.
