Which rail pass to purchase?
I will be flying into Zurich, and then will take a train to Interlaken. My plan is to get to the top of the Jungfrau, perhaps take in the Schiltorn, and see other parts of the Berner Oberland area. I also hope to take a day trip to Luzern, possibly Bern, and of course, need to get back to the airport in Zurich.
Which rail pass is best for this itinerary? I've read about the Swiss Pass, the Flexipass, the Half Pass (Is that right?), and the Swiss card. Also, whichever pass you recommend, please let me know how/where to purchase that pass. Thank you so much for your patience and help!! |
You realize that the trip up to the Jungfrau (from Grindelwald, for example) is going to cost you additional, right?

At this point, I am just starting out in terms of learning, so I don't know very much. However, I did know there was an additional cost up to the Jungfrau. Thank you for that information. The Swiss Pass seems to eliminate standing in some lines for tickets, from that I've read. Do you think I should just go that route and be done with it?

I'm afraid you're just going to have to do the work. Look up the costs of your proposed trips and add it all up. You'll probably want to take a boat on Lake Brienz or Lake Thun also, which the pass also covers. Here are some helpful websites:
The Swiss train site: www.sbb.ch/en/home.html More information: http://www.seat61.com/Switzerland.ht...ansfer_tickets www.seat61.com/Switzerland.htm#The Jungfrau Bahn My husband did this 3 times in Excel; for us, the Swiss Pass came out the best deal. |
This question comes up all the time. Unfortunately, there is no way out of doing a lot of computations if you want to be sure for your particular case. Do you go for the cost alone or would you pay premium for having to buy less number separate tickets? Would you likely to visit museums or benefit from in-city public transports covered by the higher end Swiss Pass?
