Which place to stay in for one night in Carcassonne

hi.
my family and I are looking at staying in carcassone for just a night and was wondering from these which would be best. I am thinking the first but that is also the most expensive. Of course if you feel there might be a better place please feel free to share.

We stayed at Chateau De Palaja, 5 min away. It was real nice.

Personally, I would stay in the old city of Carcassonne.
In my first trip to Europe, I stayed, by accident, in a Best Western hotel. I laughed for 15 minutes after I checked in and found out.
It turns out that Best Westerns in Europe are loosely linked local hotels that are individually owned. I've stayed in 5-6 differen BW Hotels, and have enjoyed them all.
That being said, the Hotel Donjon inside the old walled city is very nice. I've stayed at this hotel 2-3 times.
Here's a TA link. http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotel_Rev...oussillon.html
If you only have the one night, stay inside of the city walls. It's much quieter at night and is a great place for an after dinner stroll.

Sorry,I messed up the link. It priced 2 family rooms. You only need one.
The family rooms are 2 bedroom suites( 700 sq ft) a queen bed in one bedroom and 2 twins in the other bedroom.
1 × Family Suite (4 Persons) $269.81
We stayed 5 persons in that room. They brought in another twin bed.

I've stayed both inside the walls (Best Western) and outside (Mercure) and they were both good. The parking was free at the Mercure ... I don't remember if there was an additional fee at the Best Western, only that we had to park outside the walls until after a certain time, then they let us drive into the old city.

hi >> looks fantastic! As it is just for a night do you not think inside the wall would be better? Seems a lot of people like the Best Western? However the idea of moving cars etc might be a bit annoying so I guess outside the wall would be better???
Thanks just27 . . .we have 2 small children with us so what do you think would be better?

We didn't move our car, once it was inside the walls; it just stayed parked until we left. With two small children, you'd be okay in either place (the Mercure has a pool, it that's appealing) ... but, I would caution you about letting them climb the walls (so to speak!). I couldn't believe they would allow people to walk up the crumbling steps, and along the narrow ramparts, with scary drop-offs! (Been living in the US too long, when everything looks like a law suit waiting to happen.)

I agree with staying inside the walls. We stayed at Bestwestern Donjon too and I recommend staying in the main building. We were given a room in their annex which at first we thought was very nice, newly done. However, it was very nosiy as it's right next to a very noisy youth hostel so little sleep there for us.Request main building. One night in Carcassone is enough.I don't remeber any problems with the car and parked it inside the walls.

I did not like your previous 3 hotels that you were considering for various reasons . But I like the Best Western Le Donjon very much. They do have a family room for 295 euros, or 236 euros no change, no refund. I do not know availability for your date. May be in the annex.
I do not know if they can accommodate the four of you in a regular room. You will have to ask. So if they have a room at a price that you are willing to pay I say go for it.

I would not worry about the parking, I am sure they will move your luggage from and to your car. Make sure you see the la cite at night, from a distance, as it is quite a sight.
Back to the hotel Chateau Palaja. It is owned and operated by a couple with young children. I am positive that it will be very kid friendly, and they will make your stay a wonderful experience.

I don't remember a pub being next to the hotel.
Please remember, that 90+% of the tourists are gone by the time it gets to evening. Hard to imagine a pub being active and noisy, as it would be mostly those few locals that stay inside the city.
