Which Paris train station?

We will be returning from Avignon to Paris on a Sunday, and are wondering which station to return to, or is there only one choice, that of Gare de Lyon?

We will be spending Sunday & Monday nights in Paris before returning to the US (don't yet have a reservation for a Paris hotel), so wondering if there is a choice of train stations that would be preferable.

Bottom line...I don't know what any of these stations are near as it has been 6-7 years since I have been to Paris.
Thanks!

There is only one choice: Gare de Lyon.

Just stay in whatever neighborhood appeals to you most.

The train station is easy enough to get to via Metro, bus, taxi, or even foot - depending on where you want to stay.

You arrive at the Gare de Lyon. Have dinner or lunch at Train Bleu at the station. The interior is a Paris "must see", IMO. Take a peak inside even if you don't have time for a meal.

We always stay at the Hotel Terminus across the street from the station when we arrive at the Gare de Lyon & only intend on staying 1 or 2 nights. Nothing fancy & not expensive.

Not much open (other than museums/cultural stuff) on Sundays - except the Marais & l'Isle St Louis which are within walking distance of the Gare de Lyon.

You don't get to choose. You'll arrive at the Gare de Lyon. Where you stay is pretty much irrelevant, as you can easily use the métro to get to any part of Paris that appeals to you.

A map of Paris will show you what is near the Gare de Lyon.

Gare de Lyon.

Every station in Paris is a terminus station, and the tracks end there. There is no main rail line that goes through Paris, although there is a vague plan for a big underground station, maybe in 20 years.

I often stay in the IBIS right opposite the Gare de Lyon - www.ibishotels.com - nice modern hotel of the Accor chain and it is IMO also a good location - short walk from Bastille, an animated quarter of alfresco markets, real neighborhoods with bolangeries, cafes, etc.

Line 4 of Les Cars Air France stops right in front of Gare de Lyon. Very convenient for getting to CDG.

All of the above replies answer the question as it applies to Paris. For other browsers, however, it might be worth adding that TGV service connects Avignon to Charles de Gaulle airport without stopping in Paris.
