Which Paris neighborhood to choose? Rue Cler area v. Luxembourg gardens

We are going to be in Paris for a few days in late October with our 20 month old daughter. We've narrowed down the neighborhoods we would like to stay in to the Latin Quarter near the Luxembourg Gardens or the Eiffel Tour area near Rue Cler. We've stayed in the Quarter before and liked it so that's our safe choice but what does everyone think about our other option?

Reu Cler area is nice enough IMO but not in the centre of things and not as interesting as Latin Quarter.

Rue Cler seems area of newish highrise flats, etc. And for Rue Cler - just another of many interesting streets in paris before Rick Steves made in famous to Americans.

I'd stay in Latin Q where you can walk to many sights.

And the Jardins will be perfect for strolling through with a 20 month old. She can even play about.

There is a fabulous playground in one corner of Luxembourg Gardens that my kids love year after year from age 13 months to age eight.
