Which Paris Hotel
FAMILIA HOTEL: one single room with parisian court yard view over mural frescos painted by french artist , shower and toilet at the daily of 80 € breakfast inclusive
HOTEL MONGE: one double room (with shower, street view and one large bed) at 98 Euro/night for the room or one single room (with shower, street view and one large bed) at 82 Euro/night HOTEL DU COLLEGE DE FRANCE: 1 room for 1 person and a bathroom (bath or shower),at 85 EURO per night all taxes included Dates May 21-27 6 nights. One person. |
When we stayed at Hotel Familia we were on the street side (across the hall from the courtyard view). The glimpses we caught of those rooms made us think of a small cave--dark and tiny. I would be hesitant. Ask them the measurements of the room to form your own opinion.
We liked the hotel. Our room was tight, but that was what we expected. Having the large window on the street side made a huge difference. The staff was helpful and the location was quite good. |
What arrondisements are each of these in? That's my first question for where to stay in Paris.
|
All 3 are in the 5th district/Latin Quarter.
|
You checked reviews on tripadvisor.com, right?
|
Yes. All 3 have good reviews.
|
got me then -lol
(but i'll top this post) |
No personal experience with these, but my son was going to stay at the Hotel Monge and went there, saw it and left.
He stayed at the Hotel Tiquetonne .. try that. Good luck! |
The only one of the three I've stayed at is the College de France. I think it's an excellent bargain for the price: it has a great location (in the heart of the Latin Quarter, but on a quiet side street so you don't get too much street noise), a friendly English-speaking (mostly) staff, decent-sized rooms (not huge, but I've stayed in Paris hotel rooms that cost twice as much and weren't any bigger), and even an elevator (tiny, but still better than none).
There's a good restaurant across the street (Pre Verre) with a good value fixed-price lunch menu. |
I was going to suggest you turn the list upside down, and start with College du France as #1, Monge #2, and Familia #3. I think Familia actually has quite mixed reviews.. College du France's photos appear that the rooms have been renovated in the past year or two. The only other thing is that the Monge has the little fridges and we like that...

I also will be in Paris around the same time, May 21-23 so have been following various threads.
Scarlett, you mentioned Hotel Tiquetonne. From the bit of searching I've done, it appears the only way to reserve is thru phone or fax. Is that correct? I can't seem to find a web site. Basically, I'm just trying to find something, well, cheap (think Canadian dollar) along with clean, centrally located & safe for a couple of nites, one person. Quiet is good also. Any suggestions? |
Anyone heard of Hotel du Commerce? Also located in the Latin Quarter. Single bed with washbasin 39 euros/night.
|
Try the Best Western Hotel Eiffel Park. Cute, small rooms. by bus #69 stop and around the corner from the best food street in the neighborhood. Cozy bar/salon with a fireplace and nice girls at the desk. Walk to Rodin museum and Effel Tower.
|
Zoe, look for the Paris Superthread on here..there will be mention of it. We have a poster here on Fodors that stays at the Tiquetonne and I believe he calls them..not sure. My son went to the hotel in person, so I am not sure of the web site, etc.
I will check into it too, if I can find out more .. |
Zoe,
Well, that was easier than I thought it would be..I did a search on someones name and got this thread..it should help.. http://fodors.com/forums/threadselec...p;tid=34385695 |
Scarlett, thanks for directing me to a great thread! It sounds like you need to phone for a reservation so will do that. Really appreciate your help.
|
Fisches, thanks also. I did a web search for the hotel you suggested. Maybe I was looking at the wrong hotel but the cost was 160 euros per night - quite a lot more then I want to pay!

The Eiffel Park shows 5 rooms available with rates spanning 88-105€ for May 21-27... A 3* Best Western in Paris is not going to be 'cheap', though.
http://www.eiffelpark.com/booking.html Did you look at Hotel de Nestle? It looks really cute to me and is very central. http://www.hoteldenesleparis.com/ 1 person: 55-65€ |
