Jody. Sometimes I think my bifocals just don't work. Maybe if you had said it FOUR times, I would have noticed? :D

Has anyone seen We Will Rock You and how long will it be playing? We like Queen especially when Freddie Murphy was still alive and have been thinking we would like to see it if it is still playing in November. There are others we would like to see also. Thanks for the previous posters and their suggestions.

We will Rock You, is a silly, but fun piece of theatre. It is set in the future in a sort of Star Trek atmosphere. Wild silver lame costumes and a futuristic set that revolves and has a runway that moves out over the audience, up, and all around, with flashing video screens behind. Think "rock concert gone Star Trek". The music is familiar and sometimes a real stretch to make work in the context of the very limited "story". It's a fun evening of mindless entertainment.

Saw Wicked in February and loved, loved, loved it! The singing was superb and the story was very fun, especially for those of us who grew up with the Wizard of Oz (which I suppose is most of us, isn't it :D). We saw Mamma Mia a couple of years ago and really enjoyed that as well. Hmmm, toss-up entertainment-wise but I think I'd give Wicked a bit of an edge.

We were blown away by the quality of Mary Poppins. My teenage sons chose it as one of our theatre nights last June, and we loved each and every minute of it!

AmandaKay, you can't marry Gavin Creel. I am. :)

I saw both "Mary Poppins" and "Billy Elliott" in London last fall, and enjoyed both of them tremendously. "MP" sticks closer to the spirit of the book, and makes the adults less cartoonish and more sympathetic. "Bert" can move!, and "Mary" has a strong voice, one all her own.

"Billy Elliott"--I saw the movie years ago, but didn't remember much about it. It's a more British type of experience, with a number at the top of the second act (if memory serves) that lampoons British leaders. There is a more serious, political thread running through this play. And the young man playing Billy (I think there's four in all) was exceptional. I'm sure they all are. The play reverbs with both joy and sadness.

That said, I've seen "Blood Brothers" twice. It's sad, in a melodramatic way, but its theme is also true to the British way of life (the rigid class system).

"Wicked" was just opening when I was there last fall. I didn't see it, but I've just heard good things about the story itself.

For my money, "Othello" is waay too intense, but it's one that serious theatregoers appreciate. You may want something lighter like "Mary Poppins" to balance things out. "Les Miz" is pretty intense, and "Mamma Mia" (although I haven't seen it) sounds more like a concert than a musical theatre experience.

We are going to see We Will Rock You (front row center) for the 5th time in May.(enough said?) We always stay the last couple of nights of our euro-trip in London for the Theatre. This year our additional musical will be "Wicked". For our first theatre experience we saw the quinquennial play to see in London " My Fair Lady" we have been London theatre hooked ever since.

My 15 yo daughter loved Wicked. The theatre was packed with teen and young adult girls who were obviously big fans.

Hello thanks everyone for sharing their thoughts and experiences.
I have booked directly for Marry Poppins show, at last.
After considering good reviews for many many musicals [Which shows rich variety, healthy competition and terrific! talent amongst the artists of this great city and the strenghth of the original source].
Obviously, now I will be longing for coming back here. [Thinking this when I have yet to visit London for 1st time]

Our reason for choosing Marry Poppins is mainly
1. Excellent reviews
2. A lighter show [We might be suffering from the hang over of experiencing Othello, the previous day.]

We will be eager to experience Les Miserables and Wicked. Or we would be staying for a long time in this city[Afraid of costs]and view many more.

Fodors has been a fonderful forum for us. Thanks to all.

I am leaving for London soon and will be seeing Billy Elliot. Most of the other plays mentioned have been or currently are on Broadway and/or touring the US. If Billy Elliot ever does cross the "pond" it will probably be changed. I have been listening to the soundtrack for 2 years now and am really looking forward to those lovely English accents.

So, we have been to Marry poppins at last.
Vow!!!
What a great show it is!
Great set up, good music and performance. And what a character of Mary Poppins!
Now I am tempted for going to many other shows as suggested by others.
Of course, during my next visit...Hope so....Thanks.
