Which One?
 

So my boyfriend and I have decided to take peoples advice we are going to do one country for a month. We are just having a hard time picking which one Italy, Spain, U.k, Or France. We would like opinions on which country would be the best to start with please and thank you.

Very smart decision. You'll have a much better trip since your budget won't be stretched.

Which month are you going? You mentioned several months on your other thread.

Your other itinerary was heavy on Italy so that would be the one to choose. There is so much to see and do in Italy plus you have the great food, history, beaches. Lots of diversity (this is not to say that other countries do not offer sightseeing diversity).

Second choice would be France. Paris is one of my favorite cities and, as in Italy, you have lots of diversity and history.

You can't go wrong with whatever country you choose. They're all great. I would let weather be the final decision maker.

I've asked to have your thread tagged for the 4 areas you're considering. Some people only look at country-specific tags as that is their area of expertise and they might miss this thread.

We aren't sure just yet on months but we're thinking Italy is going to be the place we just want to go. We just want to go when its somewhat good weather out there. We were thinking 4 weeks 5 tops depending on money and if we've got a good enough taste of Europe. I'm not really sure how to tag areas?

I think May is the perfect month as it's mostly dry and not too hot or cold. The end of May/beginning of June starts to get hot in Rome. Start in the south and work north.

Late April/early May and mid September are good for most of the tourist areas.

Andalucia in the South of Spain is perfect in May. Spring blossom is here, and the summer heat is still some weeks away. By choice, we travel in spring and fall. For cooler weather and smaller crowds. I prefer spring because the days are longer (more time to travel), the flowers are blooming and the foliage is a fresh green.

With a month to spend, I think I would choose Italy.

You would have plenty of time to start in Venice, then go to Florence and then explore Tuscany, Umbria then on to Rome and then end along the coast (Amalfi, Capri) and leave from Naples.

France would be a very close second for me.

I too think, you will be traveling in the most interesting manner. You will get a feel for the regional differences and a slow pace gives you a chance to savor the moment. One of our favorite things is to sit an outdoor cafe and see what you can learn from the behavior of others.

We have visited all those countries multiple times and when combined we have spent over a year in Spain, none of that on business or at university.

That said, I think Italy is the perfect choice. There are cultural, historical, culinary, and linguistic differences. If you are going to spend a month see if you can visit Sicily. It has spectacular antiquities, landscape, and food. It is one our favorite places not only in Italy but of all the places we have visited.

Get a Michelin Green for Italy and you will see all the treasures that you could see.
