which of two hotels?
In Berlin, I have narrowed our search to two hotels. Radisson Blu and Melia. Melia is slightly more expensive. Is there a good reason why I should pay the extra for Melia?
I am thinking of ordering two tours with City-discovery. Berlin Classic Live and Ptosdam/Saussouci. Any negative comments?
thanks,
Peggy

The Fodors consensus is that the Melia is wonderful.
Having stayed at both, I am part of the sophisticated minority that considers the Radisson Blu the better hotel and would not pay a premium for the Melia.

With such good reviews for both I also would go with the Radisson if it is cheaper, although I have stayed at the Melia and enjoyed it, and never at the Radisson.
I only was tempted to the Melia due to an extremely reduced rate with breakfast. Otherwise I would have gone a bit off the beaten path to a local non chain hotel even less expensive and more than adequate.
Either hotel is an excellent base for Berlin.

We very much enjoyed the Melia last year for the excellent location, room size and appointments (including a very large bath with separate tub) and the helpful staff. We found the location to be excellent both for walking and public transport. We booked at an excellent rate.
We did walk past the Radisson and it looked very nice as well but we did book the Melia for our next trip for Berlin as we found it to be a great value, especially as compared to the Westin Grand where we stayed twice previously.

I know how hard it is to make these decisions but in response to HSV's comment I feel the need to say that I am now a member of the other "sophistocated" (oh, please!) minority which has decided that the Grand Hyatt is the great hotel and I came to that decision because of HSV's very kind response to my own post about "which hotel?" last November. Funny how things change, isn't it?
Enjoy Berlin..it is a GREAT city IMO.

Dukey, I haven't changed and my opinion hasn't changed.
The Hyatt in Berlin the choice place to stay in Berlin. Period. And I am delighted that you agree with me. Unfortunately it is normally considerably more expensive (for a reason) than either the Radisson or the Melia.
As the Hyatt wasn't an option on this thread, I stated my opinion that the Radisson is the better hotel. Neither the Melia nor the Radisson are anywhere as good as the Hyatt!

The Radisson Blu is slightly better and has the better location than the Melia.
Of course, there are better hotels in Berlin (my favourite is the Hotel de Rome, HSV), but better also means more expensive.

I can see your point, Echnaton with regards to the de Rome and it would be my close second choice.
I like the Hyatt's rooftop pool and workout facilities better, which is not unimportant in forming my preference.
