which of these two hotels in venice?
 

I've found rooms in two hotels at similar prices for late December and am feeling lucky to have found them as most places are booked up. Saturnia or Do Pozzi - does anyone have an opinion please? I need to grab one of them quickly! Thanks

I love the location for Do Pozzi. Be sure to eat at their ristorante, Da Raeffele.

Our friends stayed at the Saturnia and were not happy with their room (lots of dark wood). The Hotel is right near all the designer shops and San Marco. There is a wonderful rest. in the Saturnia too called La Caravelle.

But I trust bobthenavigator and think the location of the Do Pozzi will be better (less in the middle of everything but still convenient.) Check reviews on tripadvisor to help.

there are lots of reviews of both places on tripadvisor.com. I've tried to post it here over 6x but this site is messed up.

I have not stayed at neither of them but they are located in St.Marco area not very far from each other, aren't they ? Saturnia & International (4star) is normally much more expensive than Do Pozzi (3star), I thought.

Mclaurie, I'm just curious but your friends did not like Saturnia BECAUSE of the lots of dark woods??

The Saturnia and the Do Pozzi are on opposite sides of the same street, very close to each other.
I stayed at the Saturnia a few years ago. It's a nice old world hotel, good service. Our double room was very large, and quite dark as mentioned. Dark wood, dim lighting ad we faced the courtyard. TV on a portable metal stand. Bathroom old-ish, but fully functional and convenient. It's generally in need of updating, at least our room was. Excellent buffet breakfast, wonderful location. We thought at the time for the money we could do better. Have you tried the
Colombina? Another excellent location on the other side of the piazza. It was newly renovated 4-5 years ago, I'd seen some of the rooms, very pretty indeed, though not as large as the Saturnia, though similarly priced as I recall.

I did not stay at the Do Pozzi, but stayed at the Saturnia.

To me, it's a lovely hotel, which has a very venetian ambience, a beautiful lobby, and an outsdanding standard of service.

I'd say, for the same rate, the Saturnia will offer you more.

Dicky, or Richard of La Grange Park, has stayed at both, the Saturnia and Do Pozzi. I hope he sees your post, and compare these two hotel for you.

kappa, they thought the room was depressing and small. They paid in the neighborhood of 300-350e. We were staying at the Accademia (thanks to help from this board) paying 225. When they saw our room (we never saw theirs) they said it was much better than theirs. All I can do is report. We had a canal view (which they didn't) and a nice size bathroom. I'm not suggesting italiaphile chose the Accademia though. I think the location of the other 2 are better. I would agree there is a different quality level to the 2 hotels in question, so surprising they're similarly priced.
