Which of these cities would you choose for a citybreak?

Hello!

I'm thinking of doing a 3 day solo city break in the beginning of July and I'm booking with miles.

My options are:

- Lyon
- Bologna
- Zagreb
- Luxemburg

Which one would you choose?
Thanks in advance

Teresa

I haven't been to the others, but I've been to Luxembourg City on a business trip. Perfectly nice, but it didn't strike me as much of a tourist destination.

Thanks Tahl. I think so too, though I was never there.

I agree...fine for business, not much in the way of tourist stuff for 3 days!

I've been to Zagreb and Luxembourg and changed trains in the other 2. I would put Luxembourg last of the 4. I'm guessing you're limited to these cities for some reason, but if you have some flexibility and are open to other cities in Croatia I'd highly recommend Dubrovnik or Split over Zagreb.

Of those, I've only been to Bologna, but I would pick that city or Lyon.

Bologna is a lovely, non-touristy small city. It has enough to do there and in surrounding areas to easily fill 3 days.

There are great piazzas for cafe-sitting and people-watching, and the fodo is great!

Have a great time.

hi Tere,

what an eclectic mix.

not been to any of them, but from all I've read, Bologna would be my pick.

I have only been to Bologna more than once and have never been to the other cities, Tere, but I would return to Bologna in a heartbeat! Have a wonderful time and I am sure you will, Bologna is such an easy city to visit and oh yes, the food!

I'm sure you've never tried lasagne or tortellini in Bologna and than in Milan. You can't compare.
Any region in Italy has is "own" food. You can eat pizza all over the world, but it'll never be like in Naples. It depends on water, mozzarella etc.
In Bologna every type of pasta, for example, is hand made and that's make a difference.

I can understand your question, stldv, but the mozzarella I had in Naples was a marvel. I didn't even recognize it as cheese. I was stunned when I was told it was just mozzarella cheese. And, I've never had anything like it since, despite further travels even in Italy.

I love Zagreb - - but would love to visit the other cities too! The art and history museums in Zagreb are great, the cemetery is amazing, the old town is a wonderful stroll, Hemingway's coffee shop provides a great outdoor place to people watch, many of the locals speak English (which I don't expect them to, I try Croatian, but it's helpful!) and I always go into the Croatian National Theatre and give my great-grandfather's bronze bust a kiss on the nose!

I have been to Lyon and to Bologna. Food in both places wonderful. Someone will correct me if I'm wrong but there seemed to be more organ foods and sausages in Lyon. The boiled/baked carts were simply amazing in Bologna.

If you are interested in textiles, Lyon might be a better pick for you with its silk-producing history and old town.
