Which neighborhood in Amsterdam?
I'm looking for a hotel/B&B/apartment in Amsterdam for late August. Which neighborhoods or areas do you prefer? It looks like a lot is walkable and that pubic transportation is good.
We usually like B&Bs (because we like to meet other travelers) but a lot of them seem pretty far out. I'd like an area where there are good restaurants so we can walk to/from dinner. What are your favorites areas to stay? (And if you have a hotel or B&B recommendation, that would be a PLUS). Thanks much, Alice |

I liked Jordaan district and Amphora b&b -- check it out.

I have stayed twice with Maes B&B on Herenstraat. Love the location--easily walkable from the train station and many sites. They have both B&B rooms and apartments. We stayed in the B&B a few years ago, and my daughter and I stayed in one of the apartments last summer (and had breakfast with the B&B guests). You do need to be able to climb some stairs.

I think it depends on what your plans are in Amsterdam.
We were there 2weeks ago over the Kings Day celebrations, and we stayed in the Vondel Park area, very close to the Museums and galleries. Amsterdam is an easy city to get around, trams everywhere, watch out for the cyclists!! |
Jordaan.
Herenstraat is the perfect spot. If you can find a B&B east of Nieuwmarkt, that's a good spot too. |
Thanks, everyone. Seems like there are a lot of good choices and food public transportation makes getting around pretty easy.
