FYI: for 2003 French winter school holidays are from February 10-March 8 and Swiss/British school holidays are around the middle of Feb. Last year we chose the last week in January and the snow was thin, this year we've opted to take our week's ski holiday from March 8.

Echo for February. And echo on a prior reply: check the school holiday schedules FIRST - unless you like really crowded slopes in areas when there's school vacation time...

School holidays in the canton of Basel-Stadt start on March 1 and run till March 15. This means, most ski resorts continue to be packed for that period just as well.
