Which Metro Ticket for 1 day in Paris

Our flight layover is 12 hours and we wanted to go into Paris for the day.

I have read on this board that the best deal is to get the Paris Visite card for 5 zones for about 17 euros.

But then I read stuff about the carte orange.

What is the best metro ticket we can get to get into the city and see the main sites and then go back to the airport. We will be there on a Saturday.

First of all forget the carte orange that's for a minimum of a week.

I honestly think your best bet is to simply buy the tickets for getting to and from Paris. (I guess you're talking about a CDG layover?) For your very limited time, I'd probably head to Chatelet or St. Michel and walk to the main things you want to see, perhaps also taking a boat on the Seine from Pont Neuf, which is close.

well here is what we wanted to see if possible in the given amount of time:

-Eiffel Tower
-Arc De Triomphe
-Notre Dame
-Louvre (just from the outside - wont have time to go in)
-Have a quick meal (maybe in latin quarter)

Oops, I didn't meant to post just yet.

An alternative might be to get the Batobus, for which you can get an all day hop-on hop-off ticket for €12 each:

http://www.batobus.fr/english/index.htm#

That would take you to, or within walking distance of the places you're particularly interested in, without having to negotiate the metro, which you might not want to have to learn for just a few hours.

Yes, a one-day Paris Visite pass will be your best deal. Even though CDG is in zone 5, you'll need to buy a zone 1-6 pass for €17.05.

Single tickets from CDG to Paris cost €8.20 each way. Any Metro or bus rides you take within Paris will cost €1.50. So if you take even one ride within the city, the pass will more than pay for itself.

Be aware that the RER B line divides northeast of Paris. When you're ready to return to CDG, bw sure to get on a train that is going there.

What happened there? I started a post, and it looked as though it posted it. But it hadn't. Here's the bit I thought I had already posted:

You can get a carnet of ten tickets for metro/bus for €11.10, or a one-day Carte Mobilis for €5.60 each

RER from airport is 8,20. So the Paris Visite is looking good. One Metro ticket is 1,50.

So, RER to St Michel. Get out, see Notre Dame, St Chapelle, maybe lunch on Ile St Louis or Left Bank..walk around.

From there walk to Right Bank and Metro to Palais Royal..see Palais Royal, Louvre, Tuileries, Place de la Concorde. Can either walk up Champs Elysee or take Metro to Etoile, to be at A. de T.

Metro to Trocadero. Walk between buildings of Palais Chaillot and boom, there's the Eiffel Tower across Seine. Can walk over or enjoy from here.

Metro back to Gare du Nord. Catch RER to CDG.

Total cost...2 x RER + 4 x Metro = 20,40
