Which Marriott in Amsterdam Will Fit into my Fantasy?

So, my lovely husband is taking me to Amsterdam for my birthday (to see the tulips, which has always been a fantasy of mine). He's wants to use his Marriott nights, and while my dream hotel would be on a canal in a wonderful walking neighborhood, economic reality has made those free Marriott nights a necessity. So how to decide between the Renaissance and the Marriott?

I'd like to be able to stroll out of the hotel, and wander into a great local restaurant or cafe. Can I do that at either location? The Renaissance is near the train station, and the Marriott seems to be near the museum district, but would I have to walk blocks to get to that cosy neighborhood?

He's a pragmatist, and I'm the romantic, so any suggestions to fuse the two are greatly appreciated.

The MArriott near Vondelpark should suit you. It is on a canal and you can get a tour boat right across the street. There are many good restaurants in the area. Transportation options are good and you can walk to Vondelpark and Leiderplein (sp). The Van Gogh and The Rjyk museums are just around the corner. WE really enjoyed a particular restaurant , Sogno.

One hint, if you want to visit the Ann Frankhaus, book and pay for your tickets online before leaving. You get to walk right in and avoid LONG lines.

I would go with the Marriott.
As well as buying your tickets for the Anne Frankhuis online, you should also buy your tickets for the Van Gogh museum before you go as there is a special exhibition on and entry is by timed ticket only, which must be ought ahead of time. You can print out your tickets yourself.
The Marriott is also convenient for the bus service to Keukenhof which leaves from Leidsplein. Buy your combined bus/entrance ticket from the tourist information office on the Leidseplein.

Enjoy your stay.

The Marriott by a mile. On one side is the Vondelpark, which will be lovely in spring, and on the other side is the access to the central part of the city. To enjoy the small streets and canals, walk from the Marriott across the street to the Leideseplein, then turn left when you get to the big theatre on your left.

I don't especially like the location of the Renaissance. Although it is close to the station, it's also on the edge of some of the seedier (not dangerous, just seedy) areas of the city.

I know nothing about the hotel you are asking about but I have been to Amsterdam 3 times and I would suggest these things if you have time,

Go to the Albert Cuyp Market. It is full of all sorts of stuff from food to clothing. the Pijp area is fun with alot of stores and cafes.

The Jordaan area (where Anne Frank house is located)is very romantic and totally charming.
Stroll along the little canals with you sweetie.

The Leideseplein is very active in the evening. Party central.
Let your hair down and join in.

The Redlight District is interesting for sure. At first I wouldnt make eye contact with the gals out of embarrassment (Im from the midwest)..now I nod and smile just like I would to any "shopkeeper".

The Van Gogh Museum is beyond fabulous. The pictures look as though they were painted yesterday. So alive and brilliant.

I hope you have a wonderful trip.
