Which Luberon village has best restaurants?

My husband and I are planning a trip to the Luberon next September. We enjoy good restaurants and want to stay in walking distance of restaurants and shops. We also love cycling and plan on renting bikes while we are there.
I would really appreciate advice on which village to use as a base. I have 10 rentals I am looking at in Lourmarin, Gordes, Menerbes and L'Isle Sur le Sorgue. I understand from reading posts that Lourmarin is a little more difficult to travel to and from, but it has appeal from art galleries to home decorating shopping and # of restaurants.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You could check the restaurant listings for each town in viaMichelin.

We stayed in Roussillon and it has 4 or 5 good resaturants. We liked Lourmarin and it is definitely a larger town so will have more restaurants but it ia a little far south for seeing a lot of the Luberon villages. L'Isle SurLa Sorgue is not in the heart of the pretty Luberon area although not a far drive. It does have a fantastic Sunday market but I don't think I would stay there. Gordes is very touristy and has quite a fair selection of restaurants although not great ones. . I would pick Menerbes or Lourmarin from your choiice of the 4 villages you list. Menerbes is much quieter, not a lot of shopping or restaurants though..

You will love it there.

I don't think Lubéron villages are famous for great restaurants. Just walk around, look at menus, and sit down. It's not going to be bad.

Re: choice of place to rent: I didnt care for Lourmarin, too "sterile" and un-villagey. It looked too oriented to well-to-do tourists,( I realize i am in the minority..and of course, AM a tourist) i dont recall many restaurants, and the one we went to for lunch was both average food and unfriendly/. Nearby Cucuron to me anyway, had much more charm and "real-ness" to it.

L'isle sur la Sorgue: loads of antique shops, at least one GREAT home decorating shop (a collection of shops in a courtyard, work by different artists and designers) and loads of restaurants, many along the canal. The Cafe de France, opposite the big church, is the "typical" French cafe, and has huge salads! Loely town for a few hours walk. But, i agree with Winnick--i wouldnt base there.
Glad to see you are NOT basing in St Remy,as we did--NOt a good base if your main interest is the Luberon.

Wish i had gone to Menerbes, or LaCoste, but there's only so much time, alas.
