Which Le Merdien? Please Help!!!

I'm traveling to Paris soon....which Le Meridien is better to stay at, Le Meridien Etoile or Montparnasse(hope that's spelled correctly) Thanks for your info in advance!

The etoile has been newly renovated and is pretty much in the middle of everything.

The Montparnasse is not too far away and maybe a little cheaper....

I hope the renovation at the Le Meridien Etoile has been a great success. My husband and I stayed there in 1991 thinking it would be a great French chain. It was expensive but not charming at all. Our room was circa late 1980's and after that when we revisited Paris we have stayed in small hotels in the 5th and 6th districts.

I respectfully disagree. The Etoile is not in the middle of everything and the Montparnasse is close to several metros and within walking distance of some things.
Neither are long on charm by Fodor folks standards but the Monparnasse is the more attractive of the two IMO.

anya:
I stayed in Montparnnesse Le Meridian in 2000. It was convenient to metro, buses and the Railroad station. There were nice restarants inside and few just down the block to the left when you exit. The conciege Patrick was gem. I hope he is still there!
I saw the Etoile Merdian in our travels. It was in a very residential area and I was happy we had stayed at the other one. Have a great trip!

I agree with Zash very much -- the MOntparnasse one is a convenient location, near several metro stops, a train station and many good cafes and restaurants. The Etoile is in an inconvenient location off to the side of Paris where no one goes except when they have to, as far as I know. It's good for business travelers as there's a convention center near there and an Air France bus stop (although actually there is one right near the Montparnasse one, also). It's much more inconvenient a location unless you have business at the Palais des Congres or La Defense.

Thanks so much for all of your info. But do you think the Montparnasse is in a good location as far as all of the sights and shopping is concerned?

AC Dec 12th, 2002 10:56 AM

tanya:
A resounding yes!!! Enjoy your visit!

Another YES for Montparnasse!

I hope the hotel is better than their sister hotel in Monaco. The beach Plaza was one of the worst hotel experiences I have ever had.

Yes, Yes, Montparnasse! It too has been recently renovated and the location is much better
