What type of sandal is comfortable for ladies to walk in Europe and where to get it?

It depends so much upon your own feet as to what is comfortable; you will probably get replies that are all over the place. I have a pair of Mephisto sandals that I swear by for my summer travels. Others mentioned on here will probably be: Easy Spirits, Naturalizers, Rockports, Arche, Merrells, Naot, Clarkes and many more. Either do a search or wait for the responses to come flying in! Clarke's worked wonderfully for my in Itay last summer. I got them at Macy's.

My favorites are Josef Siebel and Ecco. You can usually find them at any of the better shoes stores. Break them in well before you go!

Clarke's are especially good for wide feet, and the sandals provide good foot support compared with some other brands. I just ordered a pair from Shoebuy.com after a check of many, many web sites to find the exact model that I like.

How about Birkenstocks? I'm planning to wear mine this summer in Belgium. I hope I'm not making a big mistake. I think I have done it before, but I'm not positive. Bad memory!

There is no answer for you except your own feet, some of the brands mentioned I can't wear others I can. You must seek out what is the most comfortable. Many stores who carry Miphistos will also carry many of the other "comfort"shoes. Here in Boston it's "the Tannnery."Arche has it's own store.

I agree with others that it is a matter of personal taste. I've worn my Birkenstocks all over Paris and London as a tourist and I also wear them all summer long hiking through New York City. I tried a pair of Naots one summer and was not comfortable.

I bought my latest pair of Birkenstocks from a German store that sells on ebay. $55 (including shipping) for a really cute pattern that I can't even get here in the states!

Merrill sandals/flip flops are the most comfortable sandals I have ever owned (and I am called the Shoe Queen by all my girl friends!!).

ganesansgi: I recently bought a pair of Merrell Bellaluna II sandals at Nordstrom and I love them. They will be going with me to DC in less than a week and on future trips to Europe.

Must agree with the others though, that shoes are a very personal thing, both in terms of style and fit. Hit a few shoe stores and see what fits well, feels good and is a style you like. You have lots of suggestions now as to brands, so you can take it from here.

I recently bought a pair of Naot sandals with a thick sole. They are the most comfortable I have ever had. They are good for wide feet and look nice. I intend to wear them for my trip to France.

I recently bought a pair of Natural Sport sandals. This is not a brand I am very familiar with, and I bought them at a Famous Footwear, which is a discount type store.

They have velcro straps which make them very easy to adjust to different feet. They have a very cushioned sole. I have been wearing them everywhere for about a month so that I am sure they will be comfortable for our trip in July. So far they are the most comfortable shoes I have ever owned.

I have "bad" feet and should wear orthotics daily. I purchased a pr. of Naot sandals, Kayla style ,in 2001 and wore them everyday for over 3 weeks in italy and my feet survived!
I have since used only them for when I go on vacations.
I now buy them yearly and they are my
daily shoe for summer wear .

but,buying "comfy" shoes is hit-or-miss.

I just got a pair of Propet sandals and love them. They are available through the Maryland Square and Wissota Trader shoe catalogs.

I have tried every type of sandals from the most expensive to so so, because i have feet problems...

The best for me are the SAS brand..I walked with them everywhere in the USA and Europe..I have been a loyal and thankful SAS customer for years..
The shoes or sandals are handmade and the leather is so soft and supples..Your feet will Thank You...:)

Just a word of caution: I bought 2 pairs of expensive European sandals for our trip to Italy 2 years ago. They felt great, and I thought I was being so good. When I got home---after walking miles everyday---- I found out that I had developed plantar faciitis, which is a very painful heel problem. What was wrong was that I didn't have enough arch support or cushioning in the sandals---they were very hard. It has taken me almost 2 years for my heel to get better, and now we are leaving for Italy again. So I am making sure I have cushioning and arch support this time! Price isn't as important as fit, and make sure you wear the shoes a lot before you go!

I bought a pair of Monroe sandals last month that I wear almost every day-very comfortable, soft black leather, would look great in Europe.
