which is better-cinque or sorrento?

My husbnd and I want to find a nice Italian beach for 2 days for rest prior to our trip to Rome. Which is better- Cinque Terre or Sorrento?

Neither of these is a beach resort. Sorrento, in fact, has no beaches at all. There are beach resorts much nearer to Roma. Any guide book to Italy should mention somewhere suitable.

Sorrento does have a beach, it is small and below the town but usable. link http://www.fotosearch.com/MDG202/wt6071/
Not great but ok!

Do you need actual beaches, or do you just want a seaside resort ? The Cinque Terre and the Amalfi Coast are both beautiful but neither has much in the way of beaches as they both mainly comprise cliffs. Such beaches as there are, are small and stony. But on the Amalfi Coast some of the hotels have artificial concrete bathing platforms, usually descended to by lift, and it is a beautiful area for just lazing by a pool & enjoying views. But if you are just having 2 days out from a trip to Rome, then you'd be better advised to stay at a beach resort nearer Rome, as Geoff suggests, and save on the travelling time.

Hi P,
>...a nice Italian beach for 2 days for rest prior to our trip to Rome.<

Will this be the first stop from the US?
