Which hotel in Turin? Holiday Inn downtown or Hotel Urbani

Trying to decide between these two. Any comments on either of these?

hi, 'cat,

I don't know either of them. what criteria were you using to pick them? position? cost?

all other things being equal [and when are they?] i always pick the mone that is most central.

The Holiday Inn doesn't look very central. The Hotel Urbani is in a great central location and the reviews on Tirpadvisor look good.

Oh--I just found your Holiday Inn--there were two others! The holiday Inn is on one side of the train station, the Urbani on the other. The locations for convenience are about the same.

ALthough I have been in Turin I am no expert. One thing I know the area near the train station is in general seedy.
One side is worst than the other at least it was like this when we visited some years back. So the ONLy way to know I believe is to get the advice of an honest local. Like we did.
It was a week that all Turin was full because of a congress and my friend approved reluctantly a Best Western at the left side of the Train station. That is facing the station to the left, it was ok. But since some time elapsed I would double check. If you are in the seedy area you will hate Torino and it is an absolutely beautiful place, although even years ago, there were a couple of guys sleeping under the famous arcades near Piazza Roma, one of them had a mattress and a dog, a German shepard sleeping with him. Crazy but true.

The seedier side is the left side facing the station, the side where the Urbani is. My experience was the seediness was mostly on the street directly facing the station. The Urbani is a blcok or two further away. I stayed on via Sassi, facing the other side of the station, and it was perfectly fine.

The Holiday Inn has a better rate and looks ok from its website so made our reservation there. Thanks for your input.
