Which Hotel in Bellagio?
BELVEDERE
DU LAC or EXCELSIOR SPLENDIDE which of these would you recommend & why? we have to pick one of these 3, b/c we are using italiatours. we'll be in Bellagio for the first 3-4 days of our honeymoon. is there enough to do in Bellagio/Como for 4 days? Or should we stay for just 3 & add a day onto Rome? (currently planning 3 nights in Rome). thanks in advance! |
Belvedere if you want the views and do not mind walking up hill. Du Lac if you want in the middle of town.

Just to show you how open-minded I can be (or maybe you'll just think it's being "wishy-washy"), I'd suggest you might be happier at the Belvedere. I always recommend the hotels at the lake front -- have stayed at DuLac and next time would choose the Hotel Florence. But for your honeymoon and a romantic setting, I'd think the Belvedere might fit the bill better.
Sorry, I don't know the Excelsior Splendide, so I can't add that to the mix. By the way, while I personally love the location of Du Lac, the rooms are certainly not beautifully or romantically decorated. In fact our bathroom, which was quite large, was downright ugly. |
Belvedere is a great choice - very nice rooms, friendly staff, and incredible views. Yes it is located at the top of town but the entire town is built on a hillside so you will be walking up and down all the time anyway regardless of where you stay. It is only a five minute walk from the Belvedere to the upper part of Bellagio. There were some excellent restaurants in that area that didn't require us to walk all the way down to the lakeside. I think three nights is long enough if it means you can spend four in Rome.

I would also vote for the BELVEDERE. We stayed there in 1999 and enjoyed the hotel. Easy walk to town.
One Belvedere tip: The balconies on the rooms on Floor #1 (which is one level up from the ground floor) are larger than the balconies on the upper levels. We enjoyed sitting on our large balcony at night, drinking wine and watching the lake. The higher up rooms will be better views...a little, but the balconies will be small. Just something to consider. BELLAGIO is a great area. Plenty to do and see. |
