clevelandbrown, LOL!
New guidebook needed, Paris for Seniors (or just tired people): bathrooms, benches, museum captions in large print, seats in museum galleries that are not no-touch antique setees, low-cholesterol, no-sugar restaurants (not a chance!), binoculars for enhanced viewing of the topless dancers at the Crazy Horse, what else?

I understand that if he recommends you, you agree to give a discount to the hordes of budget travelers who show up carrying his book

If this is really true, then the recommendations are totally meaningless. If the restaurant owner has to give a benefit in exchange for being listed then the recs are not impartial. I suspect that this might account for the poor quality of the recs.
Also, when i first saw DK eyewitness guides i thought they were great (seduced by the graphics,no doubt). however, even after thumbing through it for a while i became completely turned off by it. Just too dry and too much like a car repair manual. if i see one more cutaway diagram of a cathedral i will scream.
