Which Greek Islands
We're considering a trip to Greece and would like to spend most of our time on its islands (perhaps three of them) rather than in Athens. Our goal would be to enjoy the atmosphere; shop; dine; take in some beautiful views; and, if lucky, meet some local people. We would NOT be interested in antiquities.
Any thoughts on which three islands would make good choices? Many thanks, BB |
How much time do you have?

Two should be Santorini (stay on the edge of the caldora) and Mykonos (just loved wandering through the maze of white streets)
|
Thanks, Folks. As for the time we have, we're retired, so we take whatever time we need.

I highly recommend Santorini. Stay in Oia. It's the most quaint and beautiful. Not as touristy, imo. Mykonos was nice too... perfect for just resting and watching the sunsets. Though I have never been, I have heard Crete is amazing as well.

Crete, Crete or Crete

I'd pick Paxos, Corfu and Kefalonia, but then I ADORE the Ionians :-)

Another vote for Santorini -- it is beautiful. You should read some of brotherleelove's posts...he has spent a lot of time there.

As other suggest, Santorini with a quiet stay in Oia. (Thira is crowded with a huge nightlife--which is good for those that well, like the nightlife I suppose.)
Also Mykonos must be on your visit. It is just so incredible, hard to explain! |
I have the same interests accept shopping is not high on my list. I have been to numerous islands but my favourites are Crete, Karpathos, Naxos, Amorgos, Santorini, Chios, Nissiros, Hydra and Elafonisos Island.
