You are the only person who has a problem reading my comments.
People may not agree but that does. NOT mean they don't understand my English
This is getting old
I know you will insult me as soon as I leave this thread.
You should read your comments. You have a few errors yourself.

I wonder what % of American residents, legal and illegal, the total population of a country speak English?
I'd guess about 85% - in my old neighborhood there were so so many old Asians who spoke nary a word and of course the legal and illegals The Donald is on about...
and why when I call a company sometimes I have 'to push 1 for English"?

Even though you mentioned in your opening that the Scandinavian countries weren't included, I would think Norway in particular has a very high % of English speakers. In fact, all school children learn English along with Norwegian in school so that when the graduate our equivalent of HS they are fluent in English.
"I am not surprised that Brazilians speak a Spanish that is different than say neighboring countries!" I'm not surprised either seeing how they obviously speak Portugese.

Because for many americans - often perfectly legal - their first language is Spanish. And while they may have quite good english they opt for using Spanish over the phone because regional accents may make understanding difficult.
I have had to talk to US-based "english" speakers in call centers that I have found it very hard to understand because they had such strong regional accents. Once or twice even had to call back to get a different customer service person so I could understand.
