Which destination cheapest for Christmas?

Which European destination do Fodorites find most cost effective for a Christmas jaunt?

Dukey Jul 7th, 2006 05:24 AM

That depends on what you consider "cost effective."

I can say this much, London and fares to and from the US over the holidays aren't isn't/aren't "cheap" by many folks's standards I suspect (but we keep going there) although the willingness to use resources such as Priceline might be helpful.

I've also enjoyed Berlin over the holidays...but again, you can spend a lot or a little.

Am sure others may provide you a better, more reassuring "answer" to your question.

One of the best Christmases we spent was in Copenhagen. It was magical.

sorry, hit post before I was finished. It is less expensive to travel anywhere cold right before and at Christmas. If I were looking to select a destination solely on cost, though, I would ask a travel agent's opinion.-

You have to give the forum some idea about how cheap you are. Also, don't you have any other interest that can be considered besides finding the cheapest vacation?

The cheapest vacation is to stay at home.
I've spent Christmas in several European countries and hotels are usually very quiet. Train and bus fares are much the same whenever you go.
I live in the UK and would not want to stay here at Christmas because the country largely shuts down for at least two days.
If your question is about air fares, then only the airlines can answer that.
